Hello. Here in Mexico the government health system does not deliver sensors to diabetics or type 1 or type 2. One has to get them on your own.It is very expensive for us since each sensor has a cost of approximately $ 75.They will say it is worth paying it but there are many other payments and the sensor only lasts 14 days, for example I have to pay the medicines and medical consultations of my children and my wife (she does not work), so month by monthI am a money in doctors, pediatricians, ours, cardiologists, etc. Here in Mexico government medicine is very bad and most go to private specialists and this leads to a very strong expense.

Well, the fact is that I am diabetic 2 and I have treatment with Invokana and Metformin (1000) of prolonged release. But for a few weeks I see dryness on the skin of my feet and I have worried that my glycometer is wrong. So I decided to buy the reader and a sensor in Costco to see how it is doing.

I have been using it and it is great to be able to take readings at all times (sometimes I use the Android app and sometimes use the free freestyle reader) ...

I have some doubts for those who use it frequently:

1- Is there a limit of readings or can I read everything you want in 14 days?
2- At 14 days it stops working or is there a lasting way 2 or 3 more days?
3- Is there a risk of bathing that the sensor falls?
4- How exact is the sensor when we compare with normal glycometer of laboratory blood strips and studies?
5- The sensor is only used by DB1 or also use it DB2?
6- Any suggestion or recommendation?

Thank you very much in advance.

I use it now and tell you my experience.I started using it to see the information I gave me, but I was pregnant and I have continued to use it.

The meter is not as accurate as the glucometer, for example to take data to the endocrine I take those of the glucometer.

I do not have DT1, but MODY that seems that type 2 diabetes works.

The first days when I use it, it is more unbrusted, now that I sleep more from side I notice that the first days marks me hypos because when I sleep I crush it.To start it, I recommend you put it a few hours earlier and validate it at a time when you are stable, that is, after eating hours, in the afternoon for example if you do not have abrupt climbs and descents and not snacks because you activate it there.Or if after breakfast you stay a long time, then at that time.It is what is best going to try to square it as well as possible. As the days go by it works for me better. What is, more or less one is already doing to the idea, for example, the last one that I have always measures me about 10-20 below, so if I see 110 I know that I am more or less in 125-130 and so on.If you put me 60, about 80. Sometimes it measures me a little above.Come on, not exactly.

Then there are apps to link it as XDrip but I have not succeeded because I am a clumsy, I have not been able to download or anything like that. With those apps you can calibrate the sensor.I used Shuggah that is one of those who used one like that and can be downloaded from the appthore, it can supposedly be calibrate but in my opinion it does not go very well, sometimes it works but sometimes it marks you values away from reality, whichIt generated tension and constantly looking at the glucose because it did not match the sensor app or the capillary.

There is a thread on the subject of those applications, Diabox I think it is, you can look at it in case you are interested.I believe that after pregnancy unless during breastfeeding I see that I need it I will stop using it

Good morning, we go in parts:
- There is no readings limit
- The official app does not read you after 14 days. There are other unofficial apps that extend it to you something else (for example, with Diabox you get like 14/15 hours with each sensor)
- To shower you should not have any problem, as long as you have a little care.
- The accuracy is relative.Sometimes you nail it with the glucometer and sometimes it goes quite a difference. The normal thing is that the sensor measures over 10-20-30 below the glucometer.Once you know that, then you calculate. There is an app called Diabox that allows you to calibrate the sensor with the real values you get with the glucometer.
- Here in Spain they prescribe it to the DB1, although little by little they also extend it to the DB2.
- The sensor facilitates the management of diabetes as you do not imagine. If you can cost you, you will not regret it.

Greetings and luck.

Apart from what has been said, if you want me to measure you continuously to the mobile and last between 8 and 14 hours more, I recommend the Diabox app.It is the easiest to use than I have tried.
In Spain, € 69.5 is equivalent to about $ 75 since 2020 is financed to diabetics 1 and from 2023 to type 2 with insulin.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.Notice that I made a comparison with my glucometer and it was the other way around, that is, it marked me for example 142 the freestyle and 131 the glucometer.

Do you know where I can download Diabox? Is it called exactly like that?because I looked for it on Android and there is not the app .. others appear as "glucose monitor" but they are paying, no free

Thank you very much for the info. You have in Spain a good health system that I see covers these sensors and in another Forum I saw that it even covers the IVF.Although I have seen some complaints from doctors and that, they don't know what they have.

Do you know where I can download Diabox? Can I use Diabox and the original freestyle reader at the same time?

Yes you can use it at the same time with the reader and the Freestyle app, the important thing is that you first pass it through the reader and the Freestyle app and the latest Diabox (if you go first Diabox you can no longer use the reader or the app of thefree)

I have some doubts for those who use it frequently:

1- There is a limit of readings or can I read everything you want in 14 days? When "escapes" (you approach the NFC sensor) empties memory and transmits it to the cell phone or the reader. You can "scan" as many times as you want. The maximum number of values a day is 24x60 = 1440, but, eye, that memory is only 8 hours, or 480 values. If it takes more than 8 hours to scan, the oldest values are lost.
2- At 14 days it stops working or is there a lasting way 2 or 3 more days? with the reader or the official application, no.Unofficial applications usually give about 10-14 more hours.I think that is because the battery is exhausted.
3- Is there a risk when the sensor falls? No, the glue is quite good, it once happens, but it is very rare that it takes off.
4- How accurate the sensor is when we compare with normal glycometer of laboratory blood studies? To the increase in production, lately the precision is low, of ± 40 mg/dl or more.I advise you to make a capillary measure the second day (not at the beginning because it costs him to "acclimatize") to get an idea. With unofficial applications, you can also change the calibration, with the official one you cannot, the sensor is incalibrable.
5- The sensor is only used by DB1 or also use it db2? anyone can use it.In gyms they see athletes who carry it, I suppose to control sugar. In Spain, Social Security began putting it to type 1 diabetics children and old (like me), and now I think it is given to everyone, and also to type 2 that are treated with insulin.
6- Some suggestion or recommendation? See above.Free is more comfortable to put and remove than others, especially that of Medtronic, which carry a non -disposable transmitter. He is also the most hard and I think he is the cheapest.By precision, Medtronic is the best.

Thank you very much in advance.

@"Cristóbal Cortés"

Thank you very much for your detailed answer.

1- I imagined it was NFC even before buying it.When I installed the app asked me to activate the NFC and that confirmed it.Thanks for sharing this data.
2- I have scanned regularly with the app on my cell phone and I do not see in the registration book readings every minute, only the scanns that I have made manually appear, for example, yesterday I have 11 readings. How can you see those continuous readings?
3- It is a pity that they have not "taken" to the market one that has more time, say, 30 days instead of 14, although they require double mattery or a larger battery
4- Do you know if the battery is lithium?
5- I have already seen Tik Toks even of non-diabetics that buy it and use it to see how much glucose rises with certain foods. For example, I tried that the normal Coca Coca rises fast and much, the Coca Cola Zero does not rise almost nothing (I am not to take sodas, I only drink natural water and sometimes mineral water)
6- I bought him a protector that puts himself on the sensor, transparent, to protect that he does not fall.It is worth $ 15 for 25 protectors. Link

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, if protectors sell, but for quite some time they already hit well and have reduced cutaneous allergies.
With Diabox (download the APK file and click on it, it self -installed) you will see measurements every 5 min or 1min gives you to choose.Give more interesting data.

Is there something that I do not understand, had they said that with Diabox the readings were without bringing the cell to the sensor?Because I don't see that read anything if I don't bring the smartphone to the sensor.am I doing something wrong?

Thank you.I already added the widget to the home screen, but it only shows the last reading that I made manually when I approached the cell phone to the sensor, there are no automatic readings and much less every 5 minutes or 1 minute.

Isn't it that you need to configure something?
