Diabetes and pregnancy

Hello everyone
I am 29 years old and I am very worried because I am type 1 diabetic and I have become pregnant.I have a HBG 5.4 but I have not taken the folic acid until I knew I was pregnant, at 5 weeks. Now I have changed the insulin and it is more difficult for me to control myself.
Emotionally, I am very affected because I am afraid that something does not go well for my baby I do not know any woman who is in my case and that I can understand me.
How can my baby affect all this?

Hello, Sahori.
First of all, be calm.If you have become pregnant with that hemoglobin so good, you don't have to be afraid. You just have to control your glycemia to be in a range as normal as possible.
Here you will meet other diabetics that have been moms and that can guide you.
To be able to help you better, tell us where you are and in which hospital you take you diabetes and pregnancy, as well as what insulins you use, etc.
Come, calm, you'll see how you are going to have a beautiful child.

Greetings and welcome home.

Alea, thank you very much for your mood, really.
I am from Alcorcón (Madrid) are treating me the diabets at the Alcorcón hospital.I previously used Lantus Solostar insulin with Apidra supplements and for two weeks they have changed me to Humalog Mix25.The problem is that now they give me more hypoglycemia:-/

Well, Sahori, I see that you are in the same case as Ana Poppe, who has just registered and that, like you, wants to get pregnant and have removed the lantus to put the mix.

I recommend that you ask your endocrine for insulin pump, because it is what best can help you control your glycemia and avoid risks.

I do not know how the hospital of Alcorcón will be, but I know some pregnant Madrid who took her in La Paz, because it is where the specialists in diabetic pregnancies were.

Let's see if any and can give you more data.

At the moment, talk to your endo on the bomb and, if you put you, I would ask for change to peace.

Greetings

Hello again.
I told my endocrine about the insulin bomb and has told me that now it is not the best time to do experiments and readjustments.
At least I am somewhat calmer because I have changed insulin (Humalog + Insulatard) and I notice something more controlled. It has only given me some hypothyroidism, but with half a pill is already solved.
I'm going for the 9th week :)
I will tell you how everything is doing.
Does anyone else find mine similar?
Thank you very much;)

Hi Sahori as Alea says it seems that we are already two with the same worry jijiji :)).

I am also type 1 diabetic and I have a 3 -year -old boy.I want to get pregnant and have the second and as I have changed to the Humalog Mix25 and Mix50 and for now it has been fatal !!!Before he had the lantus and the novorapid.I will see if now you can make the change or the bomb (which would be the most of the most) or another insulin that does better.

Well just tell you a little as if with that hemoglobin of 5 and peak you go great !!!And that if you continue in those ranges you don't have to worry.Throughout my first pregnancy and thanks to the many care did not under 5.4 and I have had a very healthy child.

How do your controls go and how do you wear it?

A hug.

Good morning, Shaorí and Ana ... Welcome to the forum !!!Sahorí, congratulations on your pregnancy, the truth is that you have a fabulous hem, you will have to try to be more or less stable and avoid hypoglycemia, otherwise to enjoy that it is one of the best experiences of life.
Anapope, to see if there is luck with the boma and get your goal.I really do not understand ´Forqué they take away the lantus if you are well controlled, it has been a long time that women have taken a good pregnancy with this insulin and have had their children without any problem ... What reasons do they give you?Because I do not explain it, return to the mixtures, personally I have a mania ..., it seems so archaic ... of course, yes, if you have mixtures and you are enslaved it will be great ... how ready !!!!...
Well, what was said, that you will see how in a little we will have 2 challenges in the forum ....

Thanks for the welcome !!
Siii is that !!!It is what you say, I feel enslaved with these insulins. At the end of the day I think and I have occupied much of my day trying to have good glycemia and it is like chasing all day the good controls, such as playing cat and mouse.Delay meals (because I am high, I prefer not to eat), hypos of 20 and hyperglycemia of 300 in the same day.I am going crazy and that is that you are discouraged and you get tired.Luckily I have an appointment with a new endocrine on 11 d this month and I hope or change my insulin or see the way of putting the bomb.
My ancient endocrine (the one that changed the insulin to the mix) eye !!!!It has given me green light to get pregnant with 6.1 hemoglobin but to a hypos plan of 20, 30 and many many of 40 and 300. I do not understand.

I forgot Velia. He told me that I could not prescribe the lantus in pregnancy because Valencian health did not allow it for not knowing what effects can cause in the fetus.

Hello girls.

I have also been mom 20 months ago and everything went well.I was with Levemir and 6.1 of Hemo, and I didn't let me use this insulin in pregnancy, so it was to change to NPH or bomb, and after much thinking I put the bomb at 7 weeks of pregnancy, everything was great... The Hemo even went down to 5.9 ... a month after putting it on, and without hypos almost, and the ones I had were between 50-60, no lower.

Good luck and that everything goes very well, Ana with more experience and less fears, and Sahori with such a good hemo will not be problems, enjoy.

Hi Anuski!Congratulations on your motherhood.
What community are you?How is the pump requested?Do you have to have tino to ask for it?I know that in many places they are reluctant to give it and I do not know how to consider it to my endocrine.
All the best.

Hello Ana !!
I am in Castilla and Leon, specifically in Ponferrada, province of León, and my endocrine has been the one who insisted that I put it on.
If you are encouraged, tell you in your next appointment, tell you that they have talked very well about it, that you think you could be more stable than with NPH since you have many whim with its consequent rebounds and that you would like to try it ... to see howBreathe, they normally follow a protocol to put them, and one of the cases is in pregnancies, at least in my hospital, but we go that my endo is pro-pumps and suggests it right away.
Good luck.

Ohh how lucky anuski who offered it to you, that of asking is somewhat unpleasant.Hopefully I also offer it to me :)) But well I will ask for it too.My first date with the endocrine will be this March 11 I will see if the time is given and I ask.
All the best!!

Ana Poppe, tell us how you are doing in your next appointment with your endocrine and if you get the bomb.As you say I feel something enslaved with these mixtures since I spend all day doing hair controls and thinking about whether I am high or low, but at least it is a temporary overection.
I have the echo of the 12 weeks on March 16 and I am somewhat nervous, but I imagine that it is logical :).
Thanks to all for the spirits

Hi Sahori! At the moment I have changed the insulin and the truth is that it shows a lot.NPH morning and afternoon, Humalog breakfast, food and dinner. The truth is that my glycemias are doing very well, I hope to continue like this.About the bomb I think not to speak :?
How did it go in your ultrasound?

Hi Ana Poppe:

How did everything come out, how it has been solved?I hope everything has gone well, you tell me.

I am 32 years old and I am a diabetic for 1, and I have my sister who is 30 years old and diabetics for 16, and both with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

My sister is trying to get pregnant, and her endocrineIt is that with this new insulin they are giving him hypoglycemia (25 mg/dl, this last time), and we are worried since he did not have these hypoglycemia problems. But it is that my endocrine, at no time has he told me to change my slow insulin, when I decide to get pregnant, but rather the opposite. What do you think will be better?By the way, I am from Valencia.

The best, at least in my opinion, is the insulin bomb. The bad thing is that there is still too much reluctance (economic almost always) to prescribe it.

Luck.

As Alea, for me, the ideal method is the insulin bomb, but what I do not understand or the lantus, when there are so many women who use it in their pregnancies ... precisely, during pregnancy what you have to look for isA glycemic stability, avoiding the peaks as far as possible ... I do not think that hypos of 25 are recommended, go.
Greetings

Hi Mamenbg, I keep insisting to put the insulin bomb since I see that it is the best option for a pregnancy. It has not done well with other types of insulins because if they are not for the "high" they are for the hypos and so I go from peak to peak :?

Velia, I agree with you, the peaks are not good but the Lantus does not like to like myself otherwise for a pregnancy without any problem, right? They gave me the option of signing a role assuming responsibility for its use and that no longer sounds good to me that after a few years they say that this insulin is not an irrigation to pass a pregnancy, meanwhile I think thatIt is not my work to assume this "responsibility" signing this role.

Greetings.

Hi Ana, I believe that at this point the Lantus is sufficiently proven, I think that for doctors it is easier to stick to what they know and if you are with pre -enclosed insulins the glycemic control is usually good, but the quality of life, example ..... and as they don't pass it .... Well, that.
Why don't they put the pump per system if it is demonstrated that it is the best means that exists? Why in hospitals put bombs right and left and in others it seems that you are talking about Satan?Medical criteriaLack of knowledge, involvement, desire .... That is a reality.
Kisses
