"Curious" news: nocturnal hypoglycemia, is it detected with free freestyle?

fer's profile photo   03/31/2016 10:15 a.m.

About 90 % of CiudadRealeños with diabetes have experienced at least a nocturnal hypoglycemia.

Night hypoglycemia are one of the main concerns of people living with diabetes, so many of them must interrupt the dream during the night, at least once, to measure their glucose levels.

Glucose control at night is one of the main concerns among people living with diabetes.Specifically, "nocturnal hypoglycemia affects 90% of patients with type 1 diabetes, with a frequency of two weekly events," explains Dr. Jesús Moreno, a specialist in endocrinology and nutrition at the General University General Hospital of Ciudad Real.

To improve and update knowledge about hypoglycemia, medical specialists in Castilla La Mancha have met in the forum detection of hypoglycemia with the Freestyle® Glucose Flash Flash system free of ABBOTT, a 360º vision. In the meeting, specialists have taken the opportunity to learn about one of the latest advances for diabetes control, the freestyle® free glucose monitoring system. It is a pioneer technology that allows to know the glucose levels in people with diabetes without the need to prick their finger routinely.

"Hypoglycemia- a decrease in sugar level- can be a consequence of disease-dependent factors (type 1 diabetes, for example), nutritional (eating disorders) or excesses in the supply of insulin dose or physical exercise practice,"Dr. Jesús Moreno argues within the framework of the medical meeting held at the INTUR Alcázar Hotel in San Juan, in Ciudad Real.“The appearance of hypoglycemia is a factor that predisposes, in a very high percentage, to suffer cardiovascular pathologies and increases the risk of mortality. In addition, they produce an immediate physical and psychological deterioration that most takes more than an hour to recover, ”adds the doctor.

Hypoglycemia can occur frequently both in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. According to a survey in 79 hospitals in Spain and 352 patients with diabetes, 78, 7% of participants with type 1 and type 2 diabetes suffered a nocturnal hypoglycemia.

One of the greatest concerns of a patient with diabetes are hypoglycemia that occur at night.During the course of the survey (14 days), at least half of the patients recorded 3 or more episodes of nocturnal hypoglycemia. No differences were observed between the average of the hypoglycemia episodes according to the type of diabetes.

new advances in glucose measurement

The free freeyle system has been developed to change the way people with diabetes measure their glucose levels and, ultimately, to help them improve their health. Its ease of use makes more information from glucose levels throughout the day, making control more accurate.

According to the survey in Spain, 78.7% of participating patients detected episodes of night hypoglycemia thanks to the use of the free freestyle system and the educational tool for the diabetic patient2.The system also provided information to health professionals about hypoglycemia episodes not previously detected, allowing them to make better decisions about patient treatment.During the 14 days of the survey, patients, both with type 1 diabetes and type 2, experienced a reduction in hypoglycemia episodes with the use of free freestyle.

The incidence in diabetes has increased in recent decades, both in adults and children. In fact, according to the International Diabetes Federation (FID)*, 21,600 are diagnosed annuallynew cases

And here my question: if I am not mistaken, to know the level of glucose with the free you have to pass the meter ahead of the patch, no?, if this is so, I do not understand how it warns of a night hypoglycemia... Can someone clarify it to me?

It does not warn. You see it when you pass the meter when you wake up.
It would be something improvable in the software that leaving it on the bedside table by sending data the sensor or the reader when you arrive, for example, about 75-80mg/dl.
I woke up last week of how bad I was and saw him when putting the reader ... I had about half an hour in Hicm.

In the first pass you do in the morning when you wake up, you see in the free graphic as you have been the last 8 hours sleeping without the reader. That is why my educator told me that they were hallucinating the peaks and hypos that people do sleeping and do not find out and thanks to freestyle they are seeing.Although seen otherwise it is another way of giving you a little more ..

So, it does not warn of hypoglycemia, but it registers them, then, I do not understand that it is sold to detect nocturnal hypoglycems ... It seems to me rather a mere commercial argument ... $-) $-) $-) $-)

I do not understand how or with what algorithm it takes the last 8 hours of blood glucose without passing the reader since it is not a continuous meter like the DEXCOM that transmits it directly to the reader, with the free there must be NFC contact, if there is someone who someone whoKnow that I put it here because in the same way they could put an alarm in those 8 hours not .. ??Or technically it is impossible or economically does not interest ..

I have recently passed the reader for more than 8 hours ... and no curve is added a point in emptiness as if you put the new patch the first day, what happens that you do not usually these more than 8Hours without having it, as it costs little you always spend it mid -night at a time that you open the eye, with which you will spend it at 12 at night and get up to work at 7I think it is not very real, because you say it does not continuously measure as the Dexcom, it makes a curve I think approximate.

That endocrine and educators find out about the glycemic variability with insulin, it is already a great step.

I believe for what I saw in some video, I will look for it and if I find it.It has an internal memory that stores those eight hours, as within the sensor that memory has no more capacity, it cannot give or pass data to the meter than those eight last hours.I suppose and this is already my harvest, that the rest will be overwritten or will disappear according to new data.
On night hypos, I have to say that there are graphics that the red line is practically all night and I have not dropped from 80 in capillary.I was more for trends.

What do you base for such a statement, @fer?You look at them with bad eyes ...

"... Detection of hypoglycemia with the FreeSyle® free -free glucose monitoring system, a 360º vision." This I did not know.360º !!!Ahead and behind, Tris-tras, above and below, I see you the refuse. It must be for contortionists.

"In the meeting, the specialists have taken the opportunity to know one of the latest advances for control in diabetes, the freestyle® free glucose monitoring system. It is a pioneer technology ..." This pioneer advances is what our friend @sherpa41 likes the most.

In the end.Marketing is what it is.The "guilt" is who publishes it in exchange for a few hard.

@aaandres I give me with your comment!:)) :)) :)) :)) :))

On whether it detects or not, if you do not activate any alarm when you are in hip sleeping, it does not help much, the only difference is whether you have to prick or not once you have woke up! ... little practical forWhat could be![-(

Hello, I'm with @gemater.The sensor stores data for 8 hours, if you do not pass the reader through your arm, do not "download" that data and are lost in ancient order.

The reader's software cannot warn of a hiccup until the data does not arrive, that is the great lack of freestyle. At the time they get the data automatically downloaded every few minutes, so the freestyle will look quite a lot of Dexcom, I suppose that in price as well...

However, it serves me a lot to "find out about the movie" about what has happened while I sleep, since I do not wake up with the hypos.I have also learned a lot about the absorption speed of each food and the trends give me a lot of peace of mind.

As always, this is just my opinion.

Something is at least seeing what happens to you at night and so you can act.Ideally, it would be that it will whistle, but when we buy it we already know.

Hi @kraken and @anaisabel I agree with you that it can serve as help for the analysis of what has happened at night and make a forecast for the following, but that does not prevent you from having the hypo, surely I am "biased"Because I use the Dexcom and one of the things that I value most is that it has alarms both for when you are high (> 200), and for bass (80> and 55>).

Advertising if it is a bit misleading on this subject, and hopefully they give this functionality.

I have given you a "like" your comments that it is, especially for post-analysis!;)

Hello fer,

>> "On whether it detects or not, sincerely, if an alarm is not activated when you are in hip sleeping, it does not help much, the only difference is whether you have to prick or not once you have woke up! ...Little practical for what could be! "
* Your comments have always seemed very interesting, but in this case you are wrong.
It is not perfect, but it approaches what I simply dream (I exaggerate a little, but thus recall Pablo Milanés :-))
- Improvements are mainly due to the failures of some sensors, but I would not rule it out for what is criticized here, if you are a patient with constant hypos, other products exist (Dexcom, Enlite, ...)
-Freestyle Free has a much more affordable price than the DEXCOM or others and opens a reef that other companies will not want to escape -> They will hurry to create versions at competitive prices of new non -invasive glucose meters.
- The communication technology you use is NFC ( Link that consumes practically only when it is played with the receiver and transmits the data. The data is the sensor (8 hours as @kraken says)
- If an alarm is not activated, it will probably be for the energy expenses that would be + cost of putting a vibrator or speaker in the sensor, because on the receiver I would have to use another communication technology eg.Bluetoothle that consumes more than NFC.
- At night, you have to continue waking up, but without lighting lights, or clicking, or hitting the drop ...
- It allows you to be very aware of how your sugar works and fabulous in the X files that says @jediazucarado.
- An MCG or East monitoring system should be mandatory for all who debut to be all aware of what we have in hand.

The free reader has an incorporated alarm, which mobile or alarm, it would be a matter of putting a more advanced software when in that section it detects hypoglycemia, the same is that for € 60 that the reader costs they do not want to give that possibility, it is my opinion ...

@Aranzazuleg If you go to bed at 00:00 hours and you get up at 8 o'The void has never happened to me except when a new sensor started ..

What I think wanted to highlight @Fer, is that once again the people of Abbot have managed to "sell well" in a news, campaign, or in whatever. If you read the news carefully you see that at no time are the truth missing, but if a potential client does not know the sensor can interpret that it is a CGM, when it is not.

That is, once again a 10 for the Abbott's marketing team, although the advertising of its product if you do not read it can lead you to false expectations (this is not a crime at the moment)

Yes, but summarizing, that when you spend the reader in the morning you have already sucked the hypoglycemia or you are in it, what guay .... no thanks ..
As @Fer says, I am biased by the Dexcom and to my knowledge that it has given me a descent does not return the lost neurons ..
