Hello everyone, I'm new here.
I am a father of a newly diagnosed 6 -year -old from DM1 a month ago, in treatment with NR and Lantus.
I am a family doctor and I have experience in DM2, but it is clear that it is not the same to diagnose and try to take care of daily.
I have gone through the trauma of the diagnosis after making ketoacidosis in the debut. The denial phase, pity that they had been wrong or that it would be transient or at least one lad that could deal with Glicazide .... the anger phase, the phase of looking for guilty ...
Currently in a phase of depression, in psychiatric treatment but with capacities and decision to treat and make my child out.
I have "bad" days in which I depletely exhaust. For me, the 24h are monothematical, everything is diabetes.I want to do well and I am always connected to the mobile seeking nutrition issues, DM1 updates, psychological help, RRSS .... and above all "new research."Here I have discovered the unfortunate advance of stem cell therapy and islet transplants, which go back about 15-20 years ago and has not even reached any tests in humans, except for such Brian Shelton that has to take immunosuppressantsfor life ...
What to say?At first I saw the issue with favorable expectations, but upon discovering that many studies were 2 decades, I have left my face of vinegar.Disgusting that there could be interest that the issue does not advance.
Anyway, I greet you and I will accompany you with great appreciation and interest.
All the best.

Hi Lowcarb.Welcome to the forum.I debuted in September and share some of your phases in this. The principle is overwhelming, you actually become monothem, all your attention in measurements, deciding doses, falling into hypoglycemia.
I understand your unease, it is very unfair that a six -year -old boy has to load with this and tremendously difficult for you to manage it without knowing what his sensations are.It is unvoy, also life imprisonment, 24/7.
Peeero, acceptance comes and with it serenity.Your child is full of life, of illusion, of the future.Accompany him in this, take care of him a lot, love him a lot and let yourself support for other people, including this forum.
Courage, you will leave that anxiety and with your preparation in the field you will manage it very well, sure.

First you have to accept it.Then get into antidepressant treatment, if necessary. And little by little it "normalize life", although it will never be the same. There will be many friends who do not understand what happens to parents.
But I assure you that those who suffer less and more normalize life are our children.
And they emerge better treatments that help a lot.
I don't want to think what I happened to my five -year -old daughter and those traitorous insulins.
After 27 years it still has a perfect analytical without any diabetic complication. We got glycosylated of less than 6.5 all the time.It is not difficult.
Much encouragement, that our children have a lifetime to be happy and get what they intend.
A hug.

As I understand Lowcarb. We have already been in the gap for almost 2 years ... and I do not tire of telling the disgusting of the situation ... there is no minute without living by and to control their levels ... for more inri the management byYour doctor and the little empathy of even close relatives do not help much.I encourage you to get a partner of Zero Diabetes, your work seems commendable.

Apart from VERTEX Several groups try a cure.Last summer he shared in this forum the web to raise funds from Dr. Shapiro in Canada, it seems promising and they are raising money. We also collaborate with when our economy allows it.My post explaining your work and sharing your website only hard a few hours here and was erased without giving me any explanation.Ask an administrator person from the forum because I did not find whom I head for more and I have never received an answer. If you read this message I encourage you to collaborate, I think the forum is a great help but I do not understand why initiatives are not promoted that can lead to a cure, there are millions of diabetics only in Spain and you can contribute to what each one considers appropriate. In addition, Dr. Shapiro has the support of the University of Alberto in Canada, collaborates with Sernova, a company similar to Vertex, that is, no fraud seems to me ...
Greetings and I really feel that your family has joined our club ... I need to believe that something better is about to get to our children, this is what keeps me with my feet on the ground.

Thank you all.
@Isi, to me, his primary care pediatrician visited him once and told me that he would visit him in a year (for me perfect).
The endocrinologist pediatrician of the hospital is visiting him once a month and then will spend 3 months.I visited me with the pressure of your overloaded agenda (even before COVID), and it is understandable to see burn professionals in a regional hospital, although it harms me.
The nutritionist nurse calls me every week or we have face -to -face consultation. She advises me on the doses of insulin, nutrition, physical activity, etc.It does everything. It is cheaper to hire a nurse than a doctor and on the other hand, specialists go to another EU country where X10 charges.Specialist in Spain 1300-1500 (after 12 years of career).Specialist in Germany, France, United Kingdom: 10,000 euros/month doing the same and with limited agendas. There is no shortage of professionals.

As for the collaboration and associations I am informing myself and for the moment I have put money in initiatives of "Change.org", that I am not sure to be effective, the truth.
The laboratory that starts a program of islet transplant in humans (phase 2) I will follow, I will advertise and of course I will help in everything I can.

Thank you very much to everyone.

Hello, I am Type 1 diabetics I wish almost 40 years ago, and I am also a family doctor. In what you want here you have me.Much encouragement, you have to continue forward and take care of yourself, from my own experience, do not look for healing shortly, they told me after the DG that I would soon know a cure and you see.
It is a whore but thinks that your child is lucky to be diabetic now and does not 40 a.Now there are many different types of insulins, sensors, continuous measurement ... nothing to do with when I started. It is not comfort but look, here I am.Allows your child to be happy, do not overwhelm him even if he instills a healthy life.
By the way, is your name low car, is it for something?I follow low HC food and control is infinitely better since then.A hug.

The video that @isabelbota is excellent.I had already seen it but I have seen it again. It helps remember reality.Do not hope for priests and try to live as well as possible with diabetes. It is an excellent video. In the Caniardiabetes on YouTube, giving the symbol in the upper left of the video, it says that the next event is May 2022.

@Lowcarb, in any case tell you, that we all understand you. It's hard, very hard. And only those who have gone through the same will understand you.And here in the forum there are many like @meginer who have been for many years.

Just tell you that my nephew started 7 years. And now he has 27. He has a job, he has gone to live with his girl. And it is, for what I saw recently, very happy. It is true that I only understand how complicated his life since I have diabetes. And sometimes I comment and we laugh.Because until one does not have diabetes, he does not understand how hard he is.Breakfast, food, dinner, etc.If you neglect, put the leg.If you try to be perfect, it doesn't work sometimes. In the body there are more hormones and factors and we are not machines. As they say in the forum in diabetes two plus two are not four. But it goes ahead. When they told me more than I had diabetes, I remembered the first of my nephew and I told myself, if he has moved on, he has studied, found work and move on, I cannot be less. The doctor laughed a lot when they entered me and the first thing I told him is, how can I continue doing sports. And then he told me, with that question I can tell you that I am calm and your diabetes will always be controlled.

A very strong greeting

@meginer Good morning, delighted to meet you, I MAP from Barcelona Province.
I am aware that the "cure" will not arrive next year.Obviously I look for information online desperately.I have come to the conclusion that the cure can only arrive from a transplant; The total pancreas is a savage, but beta cells or islets have bibliography for 20 years, it can be immunosupress (I do not like) or can be encapsulate and another option is self -factor.These last two options are plausible and attractive, but have been investigating for 15-20 years (???).
I do not want to say that the industry is not interested because I am bitter, although I also see it likely. But seen on the other hand, someday, some country in the world other than Spain, some serious country that invests in R&D will begin to produce transplant fabrics to treat cancers (with more or less success), amputations, spinal sections, medullaFunctional deficiencies (such as DM1, hypotyrodisms), etc.
Hypothyroidism is also.In 2012, a study was published where it was possible to replicate in vitro thyroid tissue and then implement it in mice with extended. And like all trials with biotransplants did not go to phase 2.
This is why I think that the day that starts phase 2, everything will be fine and fast because we have a lot of experience. It will happen as with the genetic engineering of Covid vaccines. That is why I think that today or in about 10 years there could be a cure for my son.And I will cry and I can rest mentally.
If there really is a black hand or a series of interested parties in which all this technology does not come to light only because of their own economic benefit deserve hell. They are guilty of suffering in millions of people and the death of many others.

My name intended to be Slowcarb !!!!But I just realized that I was wrong.
I am not going to deprive my 6 -year -old son in full growth of HC, he needs them to play in the park and make normal life.To reduce the HC I leave it to your choice when you grow up and explain that you have to monitor cetosis, of course.

@jldiazdel I have pending see that video, but I am very saturated with the newly diagnostic and I have in "favorites" hundreds of articles to read and learn. However, that video I think could work if the diabetic is yourself, but if it is your little child, it may not take so much effect.I spent a cancer years ago and recently an income from 3 weeks unconscious by COVID and poor prognosis.I replaced.Mentally I never suffered, but this is unassumable and I don't remember lower blow of life.I have already prescribed the second antidepressant for depression with a lot of decay and fluctuating anxiety, but I also tell you that in front of the child I am a padrazo;I do not cry, I do not let myself be affected, I am aware that that spoils everything. This medication gives me strength to get up early and not grate my head to be at the right level with my son.
I imagine that in 6 months I will have everything integrated into my daily routines and I will have accepted the disease as normal.

I imagine that in 6 months I will have everything integrated into my daily routines and I will have accepted the disease as normal.

Of course, the cure will arrive, and your child may have, unfortunately, not me no longer, because also with so many years of evolution, surely, if I took me, I would not benefit me from it.That's why I prefer to try to take care of myself and not think about that because I see it unlikely in the short medium term.Of course, it does not interest, there is much economic benefit with us, it is also true that in the case of DM 1, being an autoimmune disorder, it is more complicated, and also, in many cases, there are other autoimmune associates (in my casehypothyroidism). That is why I think, that it is not only the pancreas affected (although obviously the main and most serious), but it is aImmunity disorder, more or less intense according to the person.
Of course, the things of our children always affect us than ours, and more if they are so small.I was not as small as your son but I was 10 years old, little too.
What am I going to tell you that you do not know? This is a process and you learn and unlearn every day.And you will gradually integrate it, give yourself your time and do not force yourself, everything will fit when it has to do it.And take care of yourself, if not, you can't take care of your child.
I feel the covid, I hope that you are well, I know, I have not taken it, let's touch wood ... I live and work in Seville in case I am some help, and I am extremeña by birth.
As for food low in hydrates, I will tell you that it is a myth that children need many hydrates to grow, it is not true, children even have lower glycemias than adults, there are many children with type diabetes1 Q They make low food in HC and their development is perfect in everything, growth, intelligence etc.If you think about it, there are no essential HCs but essential fatty acids and essential amino acids for the body.In addition, HCs are also in vegetables and not very sweet fruits with less high glycemic index.I do not make ketogenics, neither strict low car car, because as some fruit and also as legumes. But I have seen that my controls have improved a lot, and that I do not have so much glucemic variability and it is easier not to make a mistake to go on the insulin dose or not to arrive, since without small doses of HC the ones you have to take into account.Nor do I take a lot of fats, all in their right measure. What I see is that that tells you about taking 60%HC a day is a barbarity, with so many HC you cannot get good control or coña, many things escape.
And as for ketosis, ketosis is not the same ketosis.Cetosis there is eg in a prolonged fasting at night, but there is an active insulin and nothing happens, ketoacidosis is not, there is no insulin and all the mechanism that we already know is produced and that it is of admission.
Anyway, of course it is a personal choice, and a lifestyle and each one carries it as you can best.
A hug and take care of yourself, physically and especially, what we can help you already know.A hug.

Now you will call me crazy, but because immunosuppression is not an option .... ???And to all the children who transplant a kidney or the liver so bad? They are going to die in 20 years to take immunosuppressants ... that I have seen videos and go running and playing as the one that most ... and it would not be a good option the beta cells that have been created in the laboratory and that immunosuppression, at leastto throw 10 or 15 years and have one.Normal life ... maybe in 20 years there is a cure for diabetes and you are not a lifetime taking immunosuppressants ... by God that I spend the day telling my daughter to stop running because it goes to me goes to hypoglycemiaAnd the day that is not running is in Hiper all the holy afternoon ... that the awake day yes and day also to overcome nightlife and does not know what it is to sleep more than 3 hours in a row because that is no longer an option ...Let us try those who are willing to try ..

Or perhaps the children who now transplant the liver will die with 30 for taking immunosuppressants?Or everyone will have cancer?I am something that I do not understand ... that we have not sleeped 2 years but bahh that does not matter a shit ... it becomes super normal and a shit !!Because you have to accept that there is a single way ...

I must be crazy but if they left me, I would try tomorrow, I would sign what was needed ... Even if it were only for a year, a year of rest ... a year of eating and sleeping without worrying ...

I remember that I slept for a long time next to my daughter and woke up when I changed her breathing for being low and gave her juice ... but by changing insulin, she stabilized a lot at night .., now a long time ago IWe slept calmly ..

We never have 2 equal nights ... or hip at 3 or glucose begins to rise as soon as we close our eyes and make corrections every 2 hours with fast with the consequent extra puncture. We have tried to bed it rather, also throwing down, nothing works ... we turn my wife and I to sleep with her, but come on, nights without alarms since we started we can count on the fingers of one hand ...

@Isi I am new in the DM1.
It happens to me as to you, but we are learning and discovering things every day.
Mine takes Lantus and now also Humalog Junior.
I put 2.5 but if you are going to eat HC with a lot of fat (fried potatoes, baked potatoes with meat, white pasta, pitzza) because we can do two things.
Climb average more or put 2ui and at two hours 0.5 in the peak and new control.
Obviously I don't always eat this.At home we have all changed the food, a lot of vegetable cream, soup, integral paste, whole wheat bread, etc.
Now it is better controlled.

I wish you peace, write to us for any questions
