The El Ángel hospital has created the First Children's Diabetes Unit in Andalusia in its Maternal Child Area.This disease is the second chronic disease that affects the greatest number of people under 15.
In fact, it is estimated that more than 30,000 children and adolescents suffer from diabetes in Spain, and in 90% of cases they have type 1 diabetes, and 1,100 new debutants are recorded every year.
The symptoms are weight loss despite eating a lot, having a lot of thirst, urinating in excess, and in the most advanced cases also having blurred vision, fatigue and irritability.
In the Children's Diabetes Unit, in this set of symptoms a determination of blood glucose is carried out.If it is a debutant, its entry is made during the period that is necessary to stabilize glucose levels and determine the necessary insulin dose.
This unit, coordinated by Dr. Patricia Sierra, also makes a diabetological education, a session that lasts more than two hours whose objective is to train the debutant and their relatives to integrate the treatment of diabetes with insulin into their daily routine.
According to the El Ángel Clinic, it is necessary for children and their parents to understand how diabetes affects their organism and the relationship that keeps nutrition."The food repertoire and its role in determining glycosylated hemoglobin becomes an essential manual," he said in a statement.
