The mayor campaign to detect diabetes, which begins today in municipal hospitals La Merced and Pinos and Urban Public Spaces, will also inform and guide the population about this disease.World Health Day, this Thursday, is dedicated to diabetes.
In the campaign, municipal health personnel will perform rapid tests to detect diabetes.Each person will pay five Bolivians to cover the cost of the reagents and receive the results in five minutes.
"We are with this campaign in municipal hospitals but we will also have people who will be in public spaces in squares and avenues on weekends. They will be guiding and controlling blood glucose," said the municipal secretary of Health, RogerWall.
The campaign, called "La Paz Libre de Diabetes", establishes that on Saturdays, April 16 and 23, mobile units with personnel from both hospitals attend, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.Atrium of the San Miguel Church and on 16 Achumani Street.
Health tents will work on Sundays, 17 and 24 on the Paseo El Prado, next to the Hermann building, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
"If the person has diabetes, the case will be referred to one of the offices for treatment for a broader and more complete analysis," Tapia said.
The head of the Non -Transmissible Diseases Unit and Renal Health of the Departmental Health Service (SEDES) La Paz, Aydeé Ramírez, reported that every year the incidence of diabetes in the department grows significantly.
"Every day 13.2 new cases of diabetes are recorded in the department of La Paz. Most patients are between 30 and 45 years old; however, there are more and more diabetic young people.
Diabetics also increase throughout the world, so WHO dedicates this year the World Health Day - which is celebrated on Thursday, April 7 - to raise awareness about the importance of preventing the disease.
