The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and television presenter Mario Kreutzberger "Don Francisco" added strength to educate the population of the Americas about the prevention and control of diabetes.

PAHO produced a video that is available on the YouTube social network, in which "Don Francisco" shares tips to handle diabetes, a disease that affects three times more people than in 1980 and is the fourth cause of death in the region.

These tips range from combating overweight, obesity and physical inactivity, main risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes, the most common and associated with sedentary lifestyle and inappropriate diet.

PAHO explained that these factors along with bad diabetes control also increase the probability of complications and premature death in people suffering from is already a disease.

Kreutzberger remembers in the video as until 35 years of age did very little sport "and ate a lot, but from then on I started doing daily exercise."

For the 75 -year -old animator and who lives with diabetes since the 60s, these changes in his lifestyle "contributed to delay the advent of the disease."

The new message was produced by PAHO on the occasion of World Health Day 2016, whose theme is the growing problem of diabetes.

In the video, the PAHO advises to consume healthy foods, maintain adequate weight, exercise, consume less sugar, and if you have indicated medicines, take them regularly.

"Don Francisco" will be one of the main speakers of a continental forum on diabetes prevention and control, organized by PAHO in Mexico City to celebrate World Health Day, next Thursday.
