Addor: Association that arises to give emotional information and support to families

The Association for Diabetes de Córdoba (Addor), which will officially be presented tomorrow at the Luisa Revuelta Teacher Center (Doña Berenguela Street, 2), arises with the aim of offering information about the latest developments in treatments and providing emotional supportTo families who have a member with this disease.The entity chaired by Claudia Medina began to forge on social networks, was established last February and has already celebrated several activities.

The additional secretary, Tomás Rodas, explained that the germ of the association emerged through the Facebook group Nights without sleep, mainly formed by parents of children with diabetes.That group organized the Transdiabetes march in several provinces in several provinces in order to highlight the problems suffered by people suffering from this disease and in particular children.

From there, four families saw the possibility of creating an association to meet the demands - especially emotional - of other families in their same situation because when someone diagnoses diabetes "the first impact is terrifying," Rodas said.In addition, the Diabetes de Córdoba group have created on Facebook to talk about the disease and are "very in contact" with the pediatric endocrinology specialists of Queen Sofía.The main objective is to transmit that "diabetes is not an obstacle to life, observing fundamental rules of food, medication and physical exercise."

At the adding moment it has 34 partners that meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in a room of the Lepanto Civic Center to serve families.There they also celebrate presentations of novel products and treatments that facilitate the lives of people suffering from diabetes.On Wednesday 11, for example, they will inform about a device that continuously measures blood glucose.That is, they want to "give unconditional help" to the person suffering from this pathology and "reduce the drama that supposes the diagnosis telling our experiences."

Rodas indicated that the intention is to "collaborate intensely with the doctors" and also bring to pharmaceutical laboratories to make their novelties known.In addition, they have been associated with the Andalusian and Spanish Federations.

The presentation of addict, which will begin tomorrow at 18:00, will feature the participation of the children's endocrinologist Joaquín Gómez Vázquez, responsible for the Child Diabetology Unit of the Reina Sofía Hospital and professor at the Faculty of Medicine.After this, the Triathlete and Vice President of the Spanish Association Sports with Diabetes, Fernando Herrera, will offer the Conference El Sports and Diabetes.
