Diresa reported that from every four Peruvians suffer from diabetes, to date about 12 thousand Piuranos have been receiving diabetes treatment in the Piura region, the head of Health Services of the Regional Directorate of Health Piura, Hugo Vignolo Ayala Ayala.
However, the doctor indicated that the total number of people suffering from diabetes would be greater, however, citizens do not know because they do not go to health centers to perform the screening test.
"We are currently trying a total of 12 thousand patients with diabetes but they are not only them, they would be more, but the worrying thing is that they do not know because they do not go to health centers," he said.
Given this situation, the Regional Directorate of Health Piura has raised the goal of making diabetes to about 45 thousand citizens a year and until June, progress has been made up to 50%.
Vignolo Ayala urged the population to go to health centers in case they present some diabetes symptoms as a need to constantly urinate, foam in their urine, obesity and presence of dark spots on the neck or other parts of the body.This for the purpose of immediately initiating the respective treatment.
He also recalled that citizens who have relatives suffering from diabetes have a 50% probability of suffering from it as well.The doctor regretted that people continue with bad habits and a lifestyle of sedentary lifestyle, tobacco and alcohol consumption.
It should be noted that according to a report by the Piura Health Directorate of 2014 it is estimated that 16% of Piuranos suffer from diabetes.
