The prize has been delivered to Juantxo Remón, president of Anadi, at a gala held this Friday in Madrid by the Federation of Spanish Diabetics (Fede), which with this award recognizes the work and projects carried out last year by patient associations, as explained by Anadi in a note.

In Remón's opinion, "it is a recognition of a commitment determined by training and network work as keys to improve the quality of life of people with diabetes."

The project 'Taking care' has been promoted by Anadi in collaboration with primary health care to jointly promote the training and self -care of people with type 2 diabetes, generally linked to unhealthy lifestyle habits and more present in advanced ages.

The project, which has achieved the prize in the category of 'Treatment Adherence Programs', includes complementary actions to those already carried out by both entities and aimed at the people affected in aspects such as food, exercise or the need to "not relax"care of the disease.

"A more information and training on the disease, better is its state of health, greater its autonomy and quality of life and less the number of visits to health centers for possible complications," explains Remón, who remembers that healthy eating, physical exerciseand pharmacological treatment are the axes of self -care.

Therefore, he considers positive "to create collaboration ties" between the entities and the professionals who work with the collective. In this sense, taking care of us is a "starting point" to develop a network work that drives the good use of socio -health resources for everyone and includes initiatives such as the implementation of training workshops for affected people or collaborationWith health professionals.

The 'FedE-Mercedes Sánchez Benito' Awards are open to the participation of all member entities of the Federation.Specifically, and in this its second edition, the awards contemplated four categories: 'Health and quality of life', 'Sports and physical activity', 'Adherence programs', and 'Advances and innovation'.As explained by Fede, "they are designed to recognize the work done by patient associations that offer activities to improve the quality of life of people with diabetes and their families."
