Collective of people with diabetes are manifested in Seville to ask SAS to remove "poor quality" needles.

The Federation of Diabetics Associations of Andalusia Saint Vicent (Fada SV) has summoned a demonstration on February 11 in Seville that will travel some of the main roads of the Andalusian capital, between 11.00 and 14.00 hours, withThe objective of denouncing the situation that hundreds of people with diabetes of this community "live daily" having to use, for treatment, poor quality needles that cause pain and bruises and that clearly breach the protocol for assistance to peoplewith diabetes in Andalusia. "

According to a statement, today in Andalusia there are about 1,500,000 people with diabetes.Of these, 15 percent are insulin -dependent, many of them are children. In this sense, it should be remembered that, depending on the type of treatment that you have, there are patients who have to puncture up to five times a day, "so having poor quality needles is a worsening of their quality of life and a disorderin his pathology. "

The solution to all this happens, according to FADA, because the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) acquires quality needles, which, on the other hand, patients have been provided in previous years, so that from the Federation it is understood thatThis "sudden" change responds to the fact that, on this occasion, "it has prevailed more to the economic criteria than the quality of those responsible for the Ministry of Health when determining what needles to acquire."

"This is the most urgent and immediate request, but not the only breach that exists with respect to the diabetic patient assistance protocol in this community," he says

Fada SV, whose president, Francisco Pérez Barros, points out that "neither are the pre -established guidelines either in diabetological education or in prevention of complications derived from this pathology."

The manifestation planned for Thursday, February 11, and with which they will stage all these claims, will depart at 11.00 hours of the Duchess Square of Alba and will pass through Resolana, San Juan de Ribera, Doctor Marañón, Avenida de Sánchez Pizjuán andDon Fabrique, ending in San Juan de la Ribera at the gates of the Parliament of Andalusia, around 14.00 hours.

For Francisco Pérez Barroso, this march "is necessary for both people with diabetes and their families, especially because after years fighting for these claims, it cannot be that they are able to take steps forward one year and the following year those protocols are notrespect and return to the starting point. "

This demonstration will be added by the president of the Federation of Spanish Diabetics (Fede), Andoni Lorenzo Garmendia, who will move to Seville, since he considers that "it cannot be that after meeting with the public administration we do not take into account our opinionin matters as relevant as needles, and more if one takes into account that it depends on the quality of life of thousands of patients. "
