Dr. Analía Gil writes, a medical specialist in nutrition and diabetes.

At the moment when a patient is made the diagnosis of diabetes, feelings and concerns begin to emerge in his life.

Concerns about food, physical exercise, insulin use, medication taking, begin to be part of everyday life.

Fear or fear, sadness, shame, anger, in some cases guilt, are feelings with which the patient faces both at the time of diagnosis and throughout the evolution of the disease. Many people at the beginning rebel and deny what happens to them.

It is necessary that the patient know that these reactions are expected, that the feelings come and go and that it is likely to take time to accept the disease.

Diabetological education allows, among other things, that the patient knows his illness and participates in decision making; It gives you useful tools that you will need at different times. It is necessary to learn to know myths and realities.

It is, together with other professionals, author of the National Clinical Practice Guide on Diagnosis and Treatment of Obesity in Adults and the National Clinical Practice Guide on Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus;both guides of the Ministry of Health of the Nation.

@nick20, little by little you will go recovering, or and when you know how to control it you will be much quieter.

I have quickly eaten a banana, chocolate, cookies and a little honey. Then it has risen to 126. I have scared a lot.I think if I run, I shouldn't take 850mg of metformin !!!?Don't know!!I can't make an appointment with my doctor until 27/2020.Let's see what happens !!Greetings to all and happy holidays

74 It is not hypoglycemia, it is a normal value. You just have to worry if you have an insulin exògena acting.

So you seem that you have DM2.I have DM1, if I take a banana, chocolate, etc. (even starting from 74) I would have finished through the clouds, about 200 or above.

When you do sports, try some CH (before / for) and then look at how you finish. You will have to adjust little by little.I take about 10 gr of CH in liquid to the Gym (enters faster), but I am DM1.For you to get an idea, that is equivalent to a very small banana.More or less. And with that I stay between one and two hours of Gym.

In your case it is different, and you just have to try that it works better.Don't scare yourself!Of course, if you do sports regularly and control the CH Q you take to the mejpr gradually reduce the need for medication.Comment when you can with your doctor.

all the best

What a healthy envy !! If any of the type 1 we are here we take banana, chocolate, cookies and a little honey we do not go down from 300mg/dl;)

@nick20

Ah forgive!CH I mean carbohydrates. You have to learn the basic composition of food a bit and try to eat balanced.

There are many sites on the web (but avoid pages of charlatans and doubtful quality), the best are official pages of associations of people with diabetes and books.Ask your doctor too.If you can, it would be very useful to speak with a nutrition specialist.

All the best

It also important the speed at which food enters into blood, is the glycemic index. There are foods that glycemia (rapid absorption hydrates) and others slow (slow absorption hydrates). In the table comes with a colored code: red, yellow and green, to the right and the amount of HC that each meal has.
