Santander joins the celebration of World Health Day, which takes place every April 7, and that in this edition will be especially dedicated to alerting the increase in diabetes and their consequences.

On the occasion of this date, the Santander City Council in collaboration with the Las Carolinas School Hotel, the Official College of Nursing of Cantabria, the Official College of Pharmacists of Cantabria, the Cantabrian Association of Diabetics and the Astrozeneca laboratory, has organized a program ofactivities that will take place for a whole week.

Aimed at neighbors of all ages, the program of activities will pay special attention to the group of people suffering from diabetes and the rest of neighbors interested in this disease.

The Councilor for Health, María Tejerina, recalled that, according to WHO data, diabetes was the direct cause of about 1.5 million deaths in 2012, of which more than 80% occurred in developing countries.In addition, according to the United Nations Agency Specialized in Health, this disease will be the seventh cause of death in 2030.

Santander's Health Week will begin this Monday, April 4, with a workshop on food, nutrition and three -day diabetes that will take place at the Las Carolinas School Hotel (5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.).

On Tuesday, April 5, and within the cycle of health promotion conferences 'Let's talk about health', a round table on diabetes will be held, which will take place from 5:00 p.m. at the Social and Cultural Action Center ofCantabria box.

Coinciding with World Health Day, on Thursday, April 7, the Santander City Council Plaza will host the informative tent 'Take care of your health' in which several actions will be carried out to sensitize the population about the prevention of diabetes,and exams to assess the venous glucose level, weight, size or muscle mass index.

Those who approach this space can also know the assessment of experts on their nutritional status and receive food advice, and physical activity.

The Health Week will end on Friday, day 8, with healthy storytelling sessions for primary school students from the municipality that will take place in the Municipal Library, in collaboration with the Official College of Nursing of Cantabria.
