Hello good!

I would like to ask if any is informed about the issue of Bushcraft, camping or sports in nature suffering from diabetes T1.

Since before the diagnosis I practiced it and now it gives me a little scare ...

What do you mean exactly?Woman of fright nothing, now the only thing you will have to go with more care, and if you are going to do that kind of sport I advise you an MCG with alarms to enjoy the sport without being very aware of glucose.

You can do whatever you want, it is true that it is complicated but with good control you can do what you propose, and always carry HC of various types of absorption in that type of sport.

Much encouragement and really that you can do it if you propose it, take great care of the food to wear glycogen loaded those days.

Of course you can do it.You can do everything you propose.Your illness should not change the ends you have in life, you will only change the means to get them, which will be a little more laborious but nothing more.Keep something very important in mind: the attitude you have towards your illness will condition you the rest of your life.
I also made mountaineering when they diagnosed me and not only continued to do so but years later I started doing mountaineering and ice climbing, against my endo that said that in my situation I should only walk, and I told him that to give ridesBe it.The advantage that I see in your case is that you put few units in one dose, so the hypos you can have will not be important.
My recommendation is that
1) You are prepared for any unforeseen hyper or hypoglycemia, especially the latter. At first when you go out, put less units of slow, start p.ej. with 12 u and become small controls to see how you are going, then you will be distanced these controls.Over time you will know what you have to get to make a certain march.
2nd) You see with people who know you and know that you are diabetic, so they will not have repairs to stand for a moment if you want to do a control.I have gone with many mountain groups with whom I had no confidence and it is a roll to have to walk half hidden to get a control or put insulin, because with these people you create an alarm if they know that you are diabetic.
3rd) I see that you only get slow.I would ask the doctor to prescribe rapid novorapid type or equivalent to be reserve, you can find an unexpected climb and that with a unit or two of Novorapid you solve.
For hypos uses sugary liquid that is faster absorption, I usually use watercolor to the one I dissolve to a 10 or 15% concentration according to the difficulty.Apart I also took a 100cc boat with 80 or 100 gr of dissolved sugar, but only when I anticipate great efforts and that I can have strong hypos.
4th) If you are going to camp or make alive by areas at temperatures below zero degrees, put the insulin, glucometer and strips, near the body so that they do not freeze.

It is a good idea what Jconegar has recommended, a continuous glucose meter avoids all the fattening fathers stopping to get controls (if you are below zero degrees, barely gets blood from the finger).I connected to this group just over a month ago because I wanted to know opinions and try one, and although the free freestyle is not properly continuous (and I do not want to propaganda of any brand but it is the only one I have tried), twice thatI have left the Sierra has been very comfortable.

It is not to advertise any, we give everyone's opinions for those we appoint them.I refer to one who carries alarms that can let him know if he is doing mountaineering for example, without having to be going through his arm, but to have the peace of mind that a device that will notify him and can enjoy the sport.
For me and for sport for long distances and short, the most important thing is to enjoy the sport tried to forget this tenth of award -winning lottery that we have not bought.

With fright, I referred a little more to the theme of Bushcraft and that, to go with a small backpack and a bag and "survive" a few days or one night ... now with diabetes I don't know ...

Hello Maria, because exactly the same, you can make alive or camp a day or several without problem, all you have to carry is the corresponding insulin and meters. But I was careful to wear bolis and needles, to prevent incidents, I always wore two bolis of each insulin.I put a photo of when I spent a few days in the Alps (although I barely look at me).And if you are with temperatures below zero, remember to put the insulin near the body so that it does not freeze. For this Sunday, even a moderate route carries sugary gels or juices or liquid. Is the hiking group of friends or is it for an agency?I tell you because it is for an agency that you have no confidence, take advantage of the stops you do to do controls, even if you think you are going well, discreetly and know how you go, but in doubt you have no qualms about doing them wherever, what I do, whatFirst is the first. Are you from Madrid?Where are you going to make the route?I hope you enjoy it and lose fear.

I am Malaga, the route will be from Alcaucin (Sierra Tejeda) to Periana (the town next door) and well, although we also have a group between friends, it is organized by the City Council.
Thank you so much!

Congratulations María, I see that you have already fully adapted to the mountain sport.I really liked your video (with the fabulous background of Sierra Nevada) and the recommendations you make and I should also learn from them, for example I have never taken glucagon, in many groups with which I have gone I have never said that it was diabeticAnd to finish many times I have gone only for solitary sites, an example (not to remain clear) but I am a specialist in recommending things that I do not do.It must be recognized that there are now many more means to control you than 40 years ago. Finally, I would recommend a MCG as freestyle for example, it makes your life very much, especially in situations that you are a bit to the limit.

Thank you so much! The truth was I decided to make the video because at first I had no information beyond my endocrine ... and by force of time and I have been learning more and wanted to facilitate work to new generations, you are rightIn the freestyle I forget to mention it although I do not use it for economic reasons it is true that it is a luxury. Thanks and greetings!

Thanks for the video.
I have type 2 diabetes, I inject Humalog 30 and 20 in the morning and at night, and now I want to go to the mountain to practice trekking, but I don't know what food to wear in the backpack, for example for two -day trekkings.Any advice on what to carry?
In summer I am 170 and in winter that I go to the gym every day, it usually goes down to 100, changing the semiannual mean of 7.8 to 5.5.So I advise sport or gym to all.I do not think I had hypoglycemia that I know, but there have been on the contrary seasons that I have reached 500.
Well, I hope someone can give me some advice on how to fill the backpacks, or if you know any entry on this website or another on the topic of trekking, food and diabetes, I would appreciate the link.
Greetings and health.

Hello good!I believe that there is no problem in sunburning whenever they have plenty of hydrates and act before you get a descent, or immediately.Better not just do things.
I have also made some (small) route alone, and if I had no people I would go alone because I love going to the mountain.
I've never done alive although I would grind me.Above all I make routes/peaks in the Oscense Pyrenees, Basque Country, and once Gredos and Picos de Europe. And my trips outside of Spain/Europe are focused on trekking also, at least one part.I have never had serious hypos, in fact I have better glutemia (almost linear) thanks to exercise. If it usually eats a bar at half an hour to start walking if I have not done it for a long time so that I don't get off much.I have ever forgotten the glucagon (although I usually take it, especially if I travel it were always), and if I wear enough bars and spare candies just in case.At a mountain exit if I catch me close, I encourage myself :).

Hello
I have traveled I think all the Pyrenees and the Alps ... a few of years and I would never recommend going alone.Nothing to do with diabetes.

In high mountain always better in company

And then each one who does what he wants under his responsibility

All the best

My particular case ...

Without continuous glucose meter: less insulin, eat well of carbos, especially slow and be during the activity over 180-200.

If we reach optimal values such as 100-120 you play it too much for any extra effort to soon in hypoglycemia.

With a continuous meter ... the thing changes radical because it is not the same to be constantly thinking of how I will be but you check it without riding your fingers so you can allow yourself to approach more to be in normal values.

If something is passionate, do not stop doing it for having diabetes ... except if it is to eat sweets !!!haha greetings

PS: It's coña, because we also eat sweets and you know it!
