Twenty -four people with diabetes participate in the ‘Mini Challenge of Bierzo’, a three -stage mountain cycling test that will be held from tomorrow until Sunday.

This sports challenge is part of the social awareness campaign 'Reta to Diabetes', developed by the Diabetes Foundation and that contemplates the implementation of three challenges with a common link: change the mentality of people with this disease, instilling in them the need to incorporate physical activity and sport into their daily lives, as one of the key aspects to improve its control.

Specifically, the cycling test is framed in the challenge 'Rued for diabetes in Mont Blanc' –promotido by the aforementioned Foundation and the Bas Van de Goor Foundation, with the support of Novo Nordisk - and also supposes an interesting experience forParticipants who, in addition to the sports test themselves, will live for five days - from today and until Monday - exchanging experiences related to their illness and overcoming together any difficulty that may arise throughout these stages.

Two of the three stages of this ‘Bierzo Mini Challenge’ will run through circuits of different difficulty depending on the physical condition of the participants. All the routes will be circular, with the beginning and end in Ponferrada.Every day they will travel around about 50 or 60 kilometers away, with about a thousand meters of unevenness.

The second stage, on April 29, will consist of the participation of these 24 cyclists in the 101 kilometers pilgrims, which runs along the Camino de Santiago de Winter and in which the participants have 24 hours to reach the goal.

But the ultimate goal of this initiative that involves Spain and the Netherlands is much more ambitious, since after finishing this first challenge in the Bercian region, half of these cyclists with diabetes, that is, twelve will culminate the challenge in capital letters with their participation, already in September, in an ambitious six -stage test in Mont Blanc, in the French Alps. Here, Spanish athletes will also join another group of Dutch cyclists with diabetes.
