7 out of 10 Madrid with type 2 diabetes are concerned with developing cardiovascular problems, as the 'Survey beliefs and attitudes on diabetes' has revealed, carried out by the Boehringer Ingelheim and Lilly Alliance in diabetes in the Community of Madrid.

However, the complications associated with the DM2 best known by Madrid are not cardiovascular, but visual, both among those who suffer from the disease and among the general population.

A healthy eating and the practice of physical exercise are regularly two of the basic pillars in the treatment of DM2.89 percent of the patients in the Community of Madrid claim to have incorporated new habits for the control of the disease, being healthy eating and exercising the habits incorporated by the majority and to a greater extent.In Madrid, the incorporation of these habits has been a moderate effort.

Most people suffering from this disease in the Community of Madrid agree to point to the primary care doctor as the main source of information about good habits to prevent/control diabetes.In addition, 84 percent of Madrid patients who have received information or advice from their doctor or a nurse claims to comply largely and even strictly said tips.

In fact, only 3 out of 10 Madrid without DM2 claim to have received information or prevention tips from their doctor or nurse about the risks of the disease.Among those who have been informed, 7 out of 10 state to comply with the preventive advice strictly, especially as regards healthy eating, weight control and physical exercise practice.Along the same lines, only 1 in 9 claims to know a campaign related to diabetes.

The most valued information is related to prevention, as indicated by 1 in 3 respondents in the Community of Madrid.This knowledge also demonstrates being very useful since the existence of a positive relationship between the highest level of information received and compliance in cholesterol control and blood pressure controls, reduction of the stress level and sleep 8 hours every day is observed.
