Hello everyone, my husband and I are going to buy a continuous glucose meter. It is super expensive and we cannot afford it, but after trying it 15 days in the hospital we see that it is impescindible, especially for the issue of night hypoglycemia, which has many. The truth is that the alarm is a tranquility.
In the hospital we have tried the Decom G4, but the doctor has also told us about Medtronic. What do you think is better? And price? Is it a lot?
Thanks in advance

Honestly, the doctor does not tell you stories.

Medtronic's is more expensive, it is less precise according to Mard studies, and the design and ergonomics of the transmitter is terrible.

What happens that Medtronic commercially is very strong and has doctors "conquered" that they will always offer you their products.

Then there is free freestyle but it is not a real continuous meter since it has no alarms, so for what you want it does not work for you.

Check out this to know more or less what the Dexcom G4: Link will cost you

PD: Do not buy the Dexcom G5, it is very expensive and it is not worth paying so much for the comfort of seeing the data on the mobile.

If you need alarms, I recommend Dexcom G4.
If you don't need alarms, free as a sensor is a cucumber but loses many points by not having alarms.
I have used the 3 and at the same time free-from and Free-Medtronic.I know them well.

Totally according to Artorias and AlbertoT, care with Medtronic that what they say they sell you is not real either.
I would not hesitate.

If you cannot afford it there are solutions to have all the functionality (even more) but without so much cost.
The receiver can be replaced by a device called XDRIP.That if, as the saying goes, there is no shortcut without work, so this pot has to do it yourself or ask for help from some hands.
In our case I also did not dare to spend the money from the transmitter without being convinced of the product, which seems that it is not your case that you have already used it, so I got very cheap (I was lucky) a pack of receiver (which I do not use)and transmitter with a second -hand useful life and the truth is that the system convinces me.
If as I have planned, at the end of the useful life of the transmitter I can recycle it, it will have come out much cheaper than I had planned at first.
If you are in a hurry, then directly to the distributor, but you can try to look at offers online to see if you are lucky as was my case.
Luck!!!

Thank you very much for the advice, really, I don't know what I would do without this forum.
@jconegar How is the XDrip requested to Steve?Forgive my ignorance, but who is Steve?A forum user?
@enriquec If you replace the receiver with the XDRIP, so I have read in other threads, the data goes to the mobile? But don't you need the receiver equally? What is savings?Don't you eat all the mobile battery?
Thanks and forgive for so many questions

Well, what I see complicated is to change the transmitter batteries, I have seen videos and telita.

But come on, in the thread, the Dexcom G4 with the XDrip and you save the receiver seems the best idea.

With the XDrip you do not need the receiver at all.The information that gives is better than the receiver, gives you forecasts and trends that the receiver does not.It is true that mobile battery consumption is noted, but it is a matter of having a portable battery or buying a mobile even for this, you save the price of the receiver that is a lot.
At the moment I approve with a single mobile, to see if I find a way to reduce consumption.
On the page they tell you, they offer you a practically mounted kit with a box, but I think it is not the improved version of the XDrip that offers you more battery life, it indicates the battery that you have left and in which you can put the code of the codeTransmitter without difficulty. In any case, the functionality is still equally good, you complicate less and you have a more elegant version, mine for example is closed with American tape for now and I am seeing how I make it more presentable, but for now I have service.
As @banhop says, you can also change the transmitter battery although this already seems difficult.
Of course, when the battery runs out, I will undoubtedly try before throwing it in the trash, but it will be difficult to get it at first, so I am seeing how to buy a second hand to practice, to see if I get one.

I have used the free with my child almost a year and thanks to that I bought the Dexcom .... For a child there is no color, Dexcom is wonderful, the free, a small help.More precise, more reliable, alarms .... For a child I have no doubts ... for an adult I have no experience.
