Free Style expired

A few months ago I bought a pack of 2 Free Style for my daughter;But with the passing of the months they have not been put and now expires on June 30 ..... We have confused !!!!!
And now, do you have any experience about whether they can still be used?
I do not know if the expiration date is more a legal requirement than a time when an almost electronic product such as the free style can expire.
