The General Council of Official Pharmaceutical Colleges (CGCOF) and the Spanish Diabetes Federation (FEDE) have signed an agreement to collaborate in improving the quality of care of people with diabetes.

According to the agreement, which has been signed by the presidents of the General Council of Pharmacists, Jesús Aguilar, and Fede, Andoni Lorenzo, pharmacies will promote, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, on November 14, the pharmacotherapeutic monitoring toPeople with diabetes.In addition, both institutions will share information and work on the development of Technical Days and Studies to detect the needs of patients and improve care quality.

Jesús Aguilar, has positively valued the agreement “that will allow to enhance the work of the pharmacist in improving the health results of these patients, informing them about their treatment, the disease and their complications, providing them with the follow -up service of their pharmacotherapy and providing informationAs for life habits, self -care, correct use of medicines and the need for adherence to treatments ”.In short, he has concluded, "working within the framework of the care pharmacy to improve the quality of life of patients and contribute to the sustainability of the system."

For his part, the president of Fede has stressed that “this agreement is a step forward in the improvement of both the assistance and the quality of life of people with diabetes.On many occasions, due to its proximity and for their proximity, they are the pharmacists to whom a patient goes to any health doubt.If these offer information about associations and promote the early detection of diabetes, they can give magnificent assistance to the group, in addition to helping detect those cases of people who suffer from the pathology and do not know it, and that it is estimated that it is about 2,000.000 in Spain ”.
