The Astrazeneca Foundation has announced the winners of the 'II Young Researchers' Awards, a joint initiative with the Carlos III Health Institute that promotes the scientific talent of four researchers who will receive, each, a scholarship of 20,000 euros for the developmentof his work.

Through the contest, the Foundation provides the chance to continue with the development of their research in priority health areas such as type II diabetes and obesity, COPD, oncology and cardiac rehabilitation post acute coronary syndrome (SCA).

The 90 candidacies received have been valued by independent evaluators of the technical scientific commissions of the Carlos III Health Institute and with the following resolution of the Scientific Committee of the Astrazeneca Foundation, which has highlighted the great quality of the projects presented and the technical scientific solidity ofThe research lines.

"The increase in participation and the excellent quality of the works presented are the perfect show that in Spain we have the best scientific talent, key to the future of treatments and patients," said the general director of the Foundation, Cecilia Taieb.

Edition winners

Dr. Rubén Nogueiras has been awarded for his research, related to type 2 diabetes and obesity, of the 'P63' paperMolecular and chronic diseases (CIMUS).

Regarding the oncological scope, the award-winning has been Dr. Miguel Quintela for his research on the 'immune reprogramming in pre-exposed breast cancer to antiangiogenic inductors of hypoxia-definition of neoantigens from circulating DNA'.

Dr. María Rosa Faner has been awarded for her research on the 'Development and application of network medicine to address pathobiological heterogeneity and clinical complexity of COPD', and Dr. Manuel Sánchez de la Torre for his study on the ''Impact of the Apnea-Hipopnea Syndrome of sleep in the evolution of acute coronary syndrome.Effect of the intervention with continuous positive pressure (CPAP) '.

After the resolution of the call, the winners will receive the awards next Friday, September 16, during the 'II Young Day and Science: promoting scientific talent', which will be held at the National Center for Cardiological Research (CNIC).The cardiologist and general director of the CNIC, Valentín Fuster will participate in the event.

In this sense, the awards are consolidated as a reference contest in their second edition and receive a total of 90 candidates, increasing the participation by 25 percent compared to the previous edition.
