A plane from the International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) landed today at the Saná International Airport with insulin doses for diabetes patients, affected by the lack of supplies due to the Yemen conflict.

The chief of the ICRC in the country, Alexandre Faite, said in a statement that the cargo that arrived today in the Yemeni capital contains 130,000 insulin ampoules.

"In times of conflict, those who suffer from chronic diseases are often forgotten.

The estimated number of Yemenis suffering from diabetes is about 900,000 people and the vast majority needs daily doses of insulin.

"The health sector in Yemen is in deplorable conditions. The conflict has caused the decrease in the production of national pharmaceutical companies," Faite lamented.

He stressed that the health situation has been aggravated due to the restrictions on the entry of medicines to the country and its distribution in the regions most affected by violence.

Humanitarian organizations face serious problems when introducing help in the country by air and by sea or delivering it in areas where there are fighting and bombing.
