The TV3 maralato, with the more than nine million collected during the last edition, has promoted 34 projects on diabetes and obesity.

According to the La Mararat Foundation, these are two metabolic diseases that have a large incidence among the Catalan population since they affect one in four people.

Some 57 scientists will be dedicated, over the next three years, to know the causes, treatments, prevention and healing of diabetes and obesity.

The investigations will be carried out in forty centers that will be interconnected with the Catalan research teams, of the rest of Spain and the international arena.

The projects have been selected with "maximum rigor and indicators that mark excellence among the 136 works presented in the call for aid," the Foundation has pointed out.

All candidate projects were evaluated by 65 diabetes and obesity experts coordinated by the Health Quality and Evaluation Agency of Catalonia (Aquas).

In 25 years of experience, the Marathon of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio have raised more than 151 million euros, with which they have financed a total of 757 biomedical research projects of excellence.
