Diabetes is the silent murderer that kills more Mexicans in mature age than any other disease and now also ends young people in Yucatan. One in 10 people suffers from it and three out of 10 do not even know, the Yucatecan federal legislator Francisco Torres Rivas warned, according to official data.

As of this year, February is the "month of the health of man" and we also celebrate the "Day of Love and Friendship", therefore we must also have love for our body.

Torres Rivas knew the case of a young family father, in the fullness of his life, who lost his sight because of diabetes.

“We often listen to stories of people who suffer from it and many believe that this cannot happen to them. That is why their glucose levels are not checked, ”he said.

"Panchito" greets Omar Pavón Solís, who lost his eyes because of diabetes.

However, diabetes has caused one in 14 deaths in Mexico and is the first cause of death between people from 45 to 65 years of age.

The case of Omar Pavón Solís caught the attention of "Panchito" Torres, because at 40 years of age he lost the entire view of diabetes.

Diabetes is so silent and devastating that, being an apparently healthy person, Omar suddenly surveys the consequences of the disease and in just one year he is completely blind.

Thus, rapid drastically decreased its quality of life, in the period of one year.He first lost the vision in the right eye and gradually turned off the left.

Omar has two daughters of school age, 16 and 13 years old."The greatest is a pure student nine and 10," he tells "Panchito" Torres, who gave him a cane as immediate support, because he is barely learning to live with blindness.

Together with his wife and daughters, he lives in Ciudad Caul, to the west of the city of Mérida, and for the moment they depend on his pension, since he was incapacitated to work.

Torres Rivas urged the population to measure glucose in state and federal public institutions, such as the ISSSTE, which yesterday inaugurated this "month of the health of man."

He indicated that in 2015, for example, throughout the country there were 4,500 amputations at some limb and more than 98 thousand deaths caused by this condition.

The federal legislator said that in the Chamber of Deputies there is the possibility of creating bags of catastrophic expenses to obtain the 85 billion pesos that are destined for the treatment of people with diabetes.

We recently promoted an initiative against childhood cancer, we will now seek to make a crusade with the other deputies against diabetes and seek a proposal to create effective public policies to reduce its impact.
