While jogging and walked towards the end, he met his teammate Michelle Crosby, the 60 -year -old Australian who uses a pacemaker and who barely trotted, with a cramp that had her about to stop, but Helman decided to help her and they both arrivedto the goal after almost five hours."When I saw Michelle, I did not let him stop; it was wonderful to see how excited and grateful was when he completed the marathon," says Helman.

The team that forms the Medtronic company has 20 quotas for international athletes that, thanks to the use of services or medical devices, have returned to perform sports normally, having the opportunity to participate in the "most beautiful urban marathon in America", which iswill perform from October 5 to 7."The idea is to have a team of 10 athletes who participate and another 10 in the 10 -mile race," says Sandra Ocampo, Communications Manager of South Pacific Pacific.

The race was created by the nonprofit organization Twin Cities in Motion, which has been providing different types of runs and events for participants and spectators for 37 years, which in its last edition had almost 10,000 participants and 300 thousand people from the public.Anyone can register to be selected to the "Global Champions" program;Medtronic offers to finance tickets, food, stay and the right to invite a career partner, hoping that his team is an inspiration for others.

"It is to demonstrate that there are athletes that have overcome their health problems with enthusiasm and that, with medical devices and good habits, they can normally develop and enjoy what passionate them," says Ocampo.

Previous team athletes have come from countries such as the United States, Malaysia, China, Australia, Mexico and Brazil, where they rescue the experience of participating as a team.As Helman tells, "it is about building lasting relationships in your life and being inspired by people who would never have had the possibility of knowing before the program."So significant was the marathon for Helman, who plans to participate again in the future, ideally as part of the "global champions" team.
