The Regional Hospital of Malaga and Lilly have conditioned the distribution zone and one of the waiting rooms of the area of ​​external pediatrics consultations to which they go, among other pathologies, children with diabetes to make it more cozy, foster healthy habits and helpTo families to understand the disease.

Specifically, as reported by the Board through a statement, it has been possible thanks to a collaboration agreement with Lilly to install a playful-formative space called 'Play Zone', with games and educational materials.In this way, children entertain and relax before their medical or nursing consultation.

The territorial delegate of equality, health and social policies, Ana Isabel González, has assured that "with the installation of this 'Play Zone', it is tried to reduce the level of stress that it is for children to go to the hospital frequently."

González has visited the facilities accompanied by the regional hospital manager, Emiliano Nuevo;the head of institutional relations of Lilly in Andalusia, Fernando Pérez;the National Diabetes Manager, José Carlos Herranz;and the Director of Corporate Affairs of Lilly, Teresa Millán, and members of the management team and professionals in the pediatric area.

From this initiative, the 48,929 children who are attended by Pediatrics and Nursing Professionals in the area of ​​External Pediatrics consultations of the Maternal Child Hospital of Malaga, of which 35,946 correspond to periodic reviews and 12,983 to newVisits

In addition, the professionals of the Pediatrics Clinical Management Unit diagnose 35 new cases of children's diabetes in children from zero to 14 years, and keeps 450 minors.

The director of Corporate Affairs of Lilly, Teresa Millán, said, on the other hand, that these 'play zone' are our way of contributing to better knowledge about diabetes, promoting active entertainment, and facilitating minors a spaceof recreation before consultation with your specialist.

In Andalusia, these entertainment spaces that incorporate educational material have already been installed in Seville, in the Virgen de la Macarena and Virgen de Rocío university hospitals;in Cádiz, at the Puerta del Mar Hospital;and in Almería, at the Torrecárdenas hospital.

Thus, when a minor with diabetes is diagnosed, it is common to have to go to hospital consultations once or twice a week, initially, and every three months when the treatment is stabilized.

The space includes games, stories, tables and chairs for children to entertain and paint.Disney's favorite characters are not lacking in the decoration, which include the first of the factory with diabetes: the coconut monkey.

Normalize diabetes

Coco, the first Disney character with diabetes, is the protagonist of the tales 'Coco and Goofy on the birthday of Goofy' and 'Coco returns to school', which can be read in the 'Play Zone' and seeks to promote the normalization of theDiabetes in the child population.

With a pleasant and simple language, these stories explain how Coco can make the same life as children of their age, provided that their illness is planned and known.The character arose thanks to a worldwide agreement reached in 2011 by Lilly and Disney to reduce the impact of diabetes on childhood with a positive message against the disease.
