The use of glucometers more accurately would allow saving up to 7.74 million euros in Spain, in addition to improving the clinical result and reducing the incidence of complications in the treatment of diabetes.

In a statement, the company Eleviseia Diabetes Care has explained that this is one of the conclusions that has been reached during the session 'The control of diabetes and health results', which has organized today in Barcelona together with the Redgdps Foundationand in which more than 60 diabetes experts have participated.

In the meeting, researchers have assured that the choice of glucometer and reactive strips "should be individualized and adjusting to the patient's needs, beyond pre -established criteria."

The day has had several discussion tables, where issues such as the current situation of diabetes in Catalonia or the different epidemiological aspects related to the control of the pathology and the consumption of antidiabetics have been addressed, as well as the recommendations of the Advisory Council onDiabetes in Catalonia.

According to this organ, we must "individualize the number of glycemic controls based on the patient's treatment and metabolic control, and taking into account the difference that exists in well or poorly controlled patients."

Experts have also addressed the distribution of costs in patients with type 2 diabetes in Catalonia and have found that hospitalizations and drugs, with 42 % and 30 % of the cost respectively, are the main actors of the budget impact.

On the other hand, in the case of reactive strips, according to the data set out, it is only 1.6 % of the total cost.

So ... it is worth changing to the new glucometers that say they have more accuracy?Do they already have their strips in insurance?

En 1922 descubrieron la insulina, en 1930 la insulina lenta. ¿Que c*** han hecho desde entonces?

But what are the most exact glucometers?I have 2 and always measure different, with abysmal margins. And I talk about capillaries, not flash.Yesterday between both 40 mg/dl difference ... which reference you take to medicate?
Now one marks me 69 and the other 90

@Ruthbia now have come out new models that say they meet the new ISO standards and are more precise.

For example this:

But on the Acu-Check Spain page only the old (the Aviva and the Connect), it seems that in Spain they are not yet in distribution
