I'm runner and I don't know what to eat so as not to gain weight in races

Hello,

My name is Marian and I am diabetic 1 for a year and a half.

I am a athlete or rather it was athlete ... since I have diabetes I always become bad.

When I run for 15 kilometers I have to eat 4 bananas, or a lot of cookies and be eating every 20 minutes.
Fattening 5 kilos, I lost the form and of course I will no longer do any podium .....

I am very discouraged, they sent me to the psychiatrist because my endocrine says that I do not act correctly with insulin, exercise and food that is going crazy.

I have so many questions for you that I don't know which to start.

My hemoglobin is 7.3 and a year and a half ago I do not know what it is to eat without salad more fish and meat, I do not allow a whim, pasta and rice or try it.

I need you to give me a hand.

My first question, what can I eat in races that I don't get fat to upload my glycemia?

But healthy things, tell me please.

Well try to get less insulin as you don't have to eat anything in the race or at least little.I am a mountaineer and when I make long journeys I barely wear quickly and as the right thing maintaining glycemia between 150-200.Everything is playing with insulin.

Hello!!I understand your frustration ... what I would do would be to lower the slow insulin from two to four units the day you are going to do the 15 km.If you are going to do it after the food or dinner I would eat rice or pasta since those hydrates being of slow absorption will make you much less hypoglycemia. And to upload blood glucose in low glass it is best to throw is juice since it will rise faster !!

@"Marian2017", have you considered putting a bomb?I think that in your case you would be phenomenal to be able to lower basal insulin while sports practices and even suspend so as not to run the risk of entering hypoglycemia and having to be eating continuously.
, Let's see if we read @jconecar and tell you, the practice a lot of sport and is answering.

@"Marian2017", I have seen other comments in other threads and I think you have knowledge about how to handle diabetes, I do not say that it is your fault, but maybe they have not taught you how it is due.Ask everything, everything, everything you need to know and try to help you.And as for the races you will surely achieve your goals, learn to control your glucose, something you will do, and enjoy your favorite sport.

@"Marian2017" Surely the pump for your case would be the best option.Anyway, see if @"jconegar" tells you something that is the expert in this.I have no experience in running and I can't tell you much but it is clear that long or half -duration aerobic sports without modifying basal at the time is very difficult.Just for walking 1 or 2 hours I start to go imagine if I start running 15 km.And modify just the day before the La Basal race because it will make you high hours before the race and I don't think it is a very good solution.Today I believe that for cases like yours the bomb is the only option to continue doing sports at that level without resorting to gels all the time.

Very good morning, finally someone who listens to me .....
Finally ... I am indeed very lost, after a year and a half I'm still lost ...
When I diagnose me diabetes, and if I say well, diagnose because after three times urgently to the Getafe Madrid hospital they are considerable loss of vision and determine to change the graduation of my cai glasses faded in the half marathon of Madrid.
After an admitted week they give me a kit and a very well colored role to make a healthy life, and I ignore my thought:
Healthy life? ... if I'm athlete ... if I don't like fried, fat, sweet ... if I do intense sports every day ....
What nonsense, this is not going to cost me anything, I am diabetic, well and what ?????
How wrong I was .... for me it is hell ...
The pump is already the pedocrine that is very soon for bombs.
I feel bad almost all day ... when I am 290, when I am 200, when I am 100 and when I am 60 ...

My endocrine as I tell you, I send the psychiatrist and effectively I was ... the only thing that happens to me is that I have an excess of responsibility with my illness, a responsibility that of not ???If I lost a lot of vision in a year? And if ignorance because I thought it was just not to eat sweets .... ignorant of me ...
I went to a private medium and I have put the free free and it is already the height of the colmI can't with this ...
I am happy, I am fun, I am pessimistic but this is overcoming me ... I need them to understand me, and nobody understands what it is to be type 1 diabetic if it is not ...
I put half a unit at breakfast, 1 and a half at food and a half or one to dinner.Trexiba 12 or 14 because I have hypoglycemia, at 7.30 I am up because but 60.
That is my pattern, that I barely modify for fear and fear ...
Not like pasta or rice, pizza or hamburges or anything ... only fish fish, meat and legume, and the fruit half pieces alone.
I am very worried, for now one of them what I ask about the sport that I am going to read what you have told me and also for example if my guideline is three quick insulin punctures, if I feel like a sandwich I can prick before that sandwich?
That is, among hours, can I prick? It is likely that these questions are silly but my endocrine does not listen to me, and my nearby people or have an idea or understand me .... Thank you very much and I think I will learn from this moment with you.

I think what you have to a greater or lesser extent has happened to us all. There is a lot of ignorance of the disease, people believe it is not to eat sweets and little else.Hopefully it was so easy, I think that most diabetics would sign now because they could be well controlled just by not eating sweets. It is a very complicated disease that influences everything, from what you eat and the insulins that you get (which is the most obvious) to things that you do not think of first such as nerves, stress, hormones (in women the cycleHormonal makes you strange things sometimes), ... it is normal for you to be overwhelmed and lost, do not worry about that because you will only add more anxiety to your life and that only harms you.Try to learn little by little and you will get it better.I am not going to lie to you by telling you that once you get used to everything it will be easy because this disease has nothing, but it becomes bearable and you learn how to act in different situations better and better. Here you can learn many things and see experiences from other people who can help you.Ask the doctor to appoint you with the educator who will have more time to explain things.Read everything you can and go losing the fear of modifying insulin. If you do not learn to do it yourself based on what you eat, exercise and what you see with experience, you will never be controlled. The doctor is not with you all day to tell you and beyond prescribing insulin and solving some concrete doubts do not do much more.
The one to click quickly whenever you eat something with hydrates you can do it without any problem by calculating how much hydrate you are going to eat and according to your insulin sensitivity you see the dose you need (there are information on the Internet of how to calculate these things). It is not necessary to follow a strict insulin guideline, the slow one you have to adjust it based on fasting glucose (at night) that does not get off or upload, it has to be as flat as possible (with the free you can see it).And the rapid depends on what you eat and click the times you need according to what you eat. That with practice you will adjust well, first tries to calculate the doses to avoid downturn and when you already control it more. You have to get to know your body little by little because each one is different and not everything works the same.
And the Free search in the forum that there are several threads about it, there you have a lot of information on how to put it to measure as well as possible. And some sometimes comes out defective and gives values with a lot of difference with respect to the capillary and you have to call customer service to change it.
Ask everything you need to help you here in what we can.And I encourage that little by little you will see how you can do the same things as before even if it costs you more effort.

Hello @"marian2017" I see you totally uncontrolled encouragement and the first thing I would recommend is to reassure yourself and start taking it very calmly, because this tension you have greatly affects you to your glucose levels that are also out of control. Then, when you are stabilized, you will have time to think about competitions and snacks and you will see how everything is much easier.I recommend that you start running little by little, for example 5 km so that your body is adapting, I with 5 km, which is what I do now, I do not need to take anything, I start between 120 or 140 and I finish with about 80 and 90And then when I finished then I take fruit or whatever.About 10 years ago it was running 15 km several days a week, being more race time began with about 140/160 APRX.And about half I took a glucose/dextrose gel of approximately 15/17 gr and it was enough, but it is just an example, you will have to be you that little by little you see what is good for you.But I recommend that at the moment you think more than anything in stability and learn the sensitivity to insulin that your body has, if it hurries me I would almost recommend a quieter sport and no competition, you will have some time later, you can alsoGo to yoga class. With respect to the freestyle sensor to me it has ever happened to give me very disparate values with respect to the strips, and I think it is due to the area where we put it, those of us who are pulling thin is better in the back of the back of thearm that is more fat.By the way, the next time your endocrine sends you to the psychiatrist, you say her that she leaves her.

Jijiji totally agree, but you know that we like to run ....... but you have so much reason.
I just started Yoga very soft because I go with big little girls I go out like new, but I like the progress of the race ...
I also wanted to ask you if you feel bad, that is, I feel like nervous, as if I faced an exam ... as with tachycardia sometimes .... then I measure me and sometimes I am in 250 that that discomfort can be normal,Other times in 160, sometimes in 100 ... that is, I have that almost continuous discomfort ...
Even as a pressure in the neck ... also and to say that I am 49 years old and alomeor may be hormones, the question is, do you feel like that with that feeling?
With that nervousness and those sensations? Is it part of the disease?
Or on the contrary I have to investigate why I feel that way?
I am very happy that you have answered me, I thought I was talking to the wall and what has been my surprise that if there is an answer, very grateful ....

Does the heart rate upload a lot when you run?Because years ago I also had tachycadias sometimes and it was because it put me at 190 pulsations when it ran strong, otherwise the discomfort can be because it has the high glucose and for those ups and downs that you have, you feel like a kind of constant restlessness, it has ever happened to me.Keep in mind that each person usually has some more weakened system than another, to you maybe the glucose a little affects you more to the nervous system, but it is still a hypothesis, if you continue you can go to a specialist, as soon asI have no idea to the hormonal system.

Forgive myself but I just got the mails and I have received notifications, I have read everything.Marian2017 not only influences the rapid that you wear but the slow one you carry in the body, when you do sports the effect of insulin is much greater, at least in my case than without playing sports.
Anyway before telling you, I think you take an exaggerated amount of HC for those km you do, how long does it take to do them?Because I imagine that when you finish you will have a peak and not small, since when stopping and starting the stomach musculature better it will be when you start uploading. When you normally run the body exercises more the muscles of the legs resenting those of the stomach.Taking bananas does not see it a good option for those km, at least so many bananas.
I opt for the bomb because the same thing happened to me but not as many HC as you comment.
The basal must also reduce it but of course depending on the one you wear and if you put one or two basal punctures, if you use two punctures for the basal it will also be easier but you want the microinfusora.
It is also true that the food that carries the body stored long ago, thinks it has to be an amount of HC to carry accumulated glycogen that for what I see gives the impression that you carry little glucogen accumulated as well.
I have been disconnected because this Sunday I have the marathon of Valencia and I go from Craneo, forgive.
Another issue that draws a lot of attention that you speak of 15 km that are km already, and you do not talk about isotonic that needs the body whether it is hot or not, do not listen to this because each one is a world but I begin to takeIsotonic at 30 minutes of having started and each km a drink neither small nor large.
I carry an animas Vibe and make a basal reduction of a high percentage one hour before starting or fourth, to avoid also taking HC.
My recommendation and it is that it sometimes hurts because we are not all the same and I do not want anyone to suffer a hyper or hyper for me.
But consider the isotonic the one that the glucose uploads the most to me is the Powerade so I do not like to take it a lot, the Marathon of Madrid made it complete taking only isotonic and the glucose remained as a line during all of it.Another isotonic that rises less and is the one that I usually take is the isostar in pills.
Think about the food of every day that is very important.I had to go to an endocrine specialist in sport to be able to carry out the half control that I carry.
It is very complicated but you can not despair.Talk to the endo to see of reducing the basal as you can do, and of course the rapid also that I imagine you do not wear if that happens to you and also imagine that you will have glucose peaks after finishing.
Sorry for having taken to answer but right now I go some crane, appoint me so that I skip the notification if I could help you have to put @jconegar to get out.

The pressure on the neck you comment is a symptom of anxiety.Tell him with the psychiatrist or the doctor, you may need some anxiolytic until you are calmer.
It has a very bad time with that anxiety. And, diabetes with intense sport, is already for very experts.

@jconejar Thank you. I will tell you that today I ran about 20km following your instructions.
Breakfast without fast insulin and went out with 170 and took the isotonic to the isotonic little by little and when I lacked 5 km I had to use 4 Marías Fontana de Jijiji, but much better, less food and at the end of half orange, I arrived at thefood in 130.
It is true that I never take isotonic, just water..
Now I also have to learn to do my favorite sport, thanks for your advice.
I am a member of an athletics team that will be in Valencia too, I will leave those challenges for another time ...

I think just like David. You do not have to change the habits as to the intake in races, etc., you must learn to calculate the "fast" insulin that you need, it will usually be very little, that is, it does not consist of eating more (in these cases),but in lowering fast insulin.
