A clinical study carried out by researchers at the UB School of Medicine demonstrates that the control of type 2 diabetes improves significantly when the patient has special care of dental and mouth problems.

Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of this disease, is frequently accompanied by periodontal pathologies and in this new work it has been proven that “there is not only a relationship that goes from diabetes to periodontal disease, but also existsThe inverse relationship, of periodontal disease in diabetes, ”according to Miquel Viñas, one of those responsible for the investigation.

The study concludes that "the non -surgical treatment of periodontitis improves the" glycemic "state and therefore the" extreme "importance of the care of oral conditions in these types of patients is unequivocally demonstrated.

The study has been carried out from ninety patients with type 2 diabetes who have received six months of oral treatment while glygosylated hemoglobin control were controlled.

The work, published in the magazine 'The Journal of Clinical Periodontology', has been directed by the Microbiology Professof the UB, José López López.
