9.7% of the adult population has diabetes.The Endocrinology and Diabetes Service of the Social Security Institute will launch the National Network of Comprehensive Diabetes Care, this within the framework of the XVI Paraguayan Congress of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Elizabeth Valinotti, general coordinator of the National Diabetes Network and head of the IPS Endocrinology Service, explained that the network is the work of IPS specialists working throughout the health network of the country.
"The importance lies in the specialized and updated care in diabetes, which will result in the benefit of the insured and the institution producing lower complications and significant savings," he said.
He pointed out that the insured will have specialized attention, education in diabetes, and in each place in the country where the diabetes attention core is available, there will be nutrition, psychology and podiatry specialists.
The specialist clarified that this launch is the legal framework that had approval of the board of directors of the pension, “the construction of the network is in our hands now, since we have the formation of the diabetologists specialists who took 4 yearsWith the collaboration of the Catholic University of Asunción, ”he said.

He indicated that at the country level, according to the latest national health survey of the year 2011, 9.7% of the adult population has diabetes."IPS serves mostly patients over 60 years with this pathology, which reaches almost 20%. The frequency is very high and the pathology is transversal to the other medical specialties," he concluded.
The launching ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 25 at 11:00, at the 25th Anniversary Symposium of the IPS Endocrinology Service.The event will be held at the Yacht and Golf Club, with the participation of national and international speakers.
