Bilbao hosts exposure in favor of diabetes control

The Azkuna Zentroa of Bilbao hosts until next Saturday, May 12, a free exposure that aims to enhance the formation and control of diabetes between patients and their families, as well as help people without diabetes to know how to prevent and detect it.

The exhibition has been inaugurated on Tuesday with the presence of the Vydense Foreigner of Health, Iñaki Berraondo, the president of the SED Foundation and head of the Endocrinology Service of the Cruces Hospital, Sonia Gaztambide, the president of the Biscay Association of Diabetes, Leticia López de Guereño, and the president of the Spanish Diabetes Federation, Andoni Lorenzo.

As explained during the presentation, around 14% of the population suffers from diabetes in the state, which is about 6 million people.Of these, around 200,000 live in Euskadi, a community in which the prevalence is less than the state average and is 10.6% in over 18 years, compared to the average of 13.8.

Of them, between 90 and 95% has type 2 diabetes, a ailment that "can go unnoticed", so that 40% of the people who suffer are without diagnose are unnoticed.

Within this framework, the participation of the Spanish Diabetes Federation (FEDE), the Diabetes Foundation, the Spanish Diabetes Society (SED), the SED and Novo Nordisk Foundation have launched the Diabeteslab exhibition, with an exhibition tour of theVisitor can "learn, understand and know the prevention, approach and treatment of diabetes" in a playful way.To do this, the visitor meets audiovisual and interactive resources or workshops for children and adults.
