The Spanish Diabetes Federation (Fede) has requested the immediate resignation of the Ombudsman, Francisco M. Fernández Marugán, so the group considers a "patent and absolute function of function" in relation to a complaint filed by this Federation.
As Fede explained in a statement, this figure was asked to act against the labor discrimination suffered by the group of people with diabetes in Spain, when accessing certain positions of the public administration.A discrimination that occurs especially in positions that require driving a vehicle, such as emails or security forces.
On October 2, the group received a response from the Ombudsman in which "it was limited to transferring the information received by Public Function, the administration responsible for updating the exclusion medical cadres that currently prevent people with diabetesaccess to certain public jobs. "
"Medical exclusion cadres of 30 years are still applied (1988)," said Julián González Hernández, president of the Federation of Diabetes Associations of the Canary Islands (Fadican).
Today, this regulation is still unmodified, although Fede has positions from the Spanish Diabetes Society (SED), the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (Semergen) and the Network of Study Groups of Study GroupsDiabetes in primary care, which corroborate the need to update those medical pictures;as well as all political parties, through their support for various parliamentary initiatives in the General Courts.
"We have been fighting for two years because they are updated, and the Ombudsman has responded supporting the general directorates," said the president of Fadican, who considered this attitude as "denigrant" since this figure should be a "defender of the rights ofpeople ".
In this sense, also the president of Fede, Andoni Lorenzo, wanted to make it clear that this request for resignation "has nothing to do with the content of the information transferred by public function", because it leaves more than evident than the Ombudsman,"Far from exercising their work in charge of defending the fundamental rights of citizens through the supervision of the activity of public administrations, it has made absolute neglect of their functions."
"It has simply limited itself to being a mere transmitter of the information received by public function and not a defender of the violation of our rights," the state president continued.The application was approved unanimously during the last meeting of the Extraordinary General Assembly of Fede, at the request of all representatives of the Federations and Autonomous Associations.
