Health launches a pioneer model for the treatment of type 2 diabetes

This new work system is a revolution in the way of working when focusing the guidelines and protocols that should be followed based on each type of patient.

The Murcian Health Service (SMS) has initiated the implementation of a pioneering model to address the treatment of type 2 diabetes, suffering from around 145,000 Murcia, regional government sources reported.

This new work system, recently presented at the Reina Sofía Hospital in Murcia, is a revolution in the way of working when focusing the guidelines and protocols that must be followed according to each type of patient.

This tool, which facilitates healthcare practice, places the region at the forefront of type 2 diabetes and will facilitate other autonomies to join the paradigm shift, ceasing to see it as a disease focused on glucose control and thatGo to address integrally considering all associated complications, thus maximizing the benefit for the people who present it.

Recognized professionals from all health areas, with profiles such as family doctors, endocrinologists, nurses, nephrologists, cardiologists, ophthalmologists and surgeons, as well as members of patient associations, have collaborated for 18 months in the elaboration of this process that includes allThe action protocols, prepared by the SMS in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim.

The 'Integrated Type 2 Diabetes Process of the Region of Murcia', as this new action is called, proposes, as the main objective, to guide and order the activities of the health professionals of the SMS with fundamental axes such as reducing morbidity and mortality, improving continuitywelfare and reduce the variability of clinical practice, following security, quality and effectiveness criteria.

This work scheme is focused on the integral approach to type 2 diabetes especially taking into account cardiovascular complications, responsible for more than 50 percent of patients' deaths.

This new model involves joining the different strategies that are developing the health areas of the region and creates a unique work frame that must be realized in each scope.

In itself it is a differentiating element in terms of the way of addressing the scenarios in which the healthcare activity of health professionals in the region takes place, since it implies a written pact of what, how, when and who should perform a taskSpecific, always thinking about the best care of patients.

Type 1 diabetes has greater incidence between young people and children, is chronic and requires carrying a life treatment, while type 2 can affect people of any age and can be prevented with adequate diet and moderate physical activity.
