Blue Warriors, the Foundation that fights against diabetes prejudices

A positive diagnosis for type 1 diabetes in its child is the common factor among a group of mothers, who decided to do something different and be the reflection that the country has human talent that has achieved notable contributions in the area of ​​health, bywhat the Civil Association Civil Guerreros Azules created.

This organization was born from the concern that the ignorance of the disease aroused, so that for a year the mothers have maintained a significant work to improve the quality of life of children with type 1 diabetes and their relatives through theorientation and educational tools.

Martha Palma Troconis, Melissa Cipriani, Mariola Osechas and Ileana Gil are part of the founding team of the Civil Association, which aware of the paradigms that may exist in the management and control of the disease when a child "debuts", that is,When it is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

The project, which has more than 200 registered members, celebrated the second edition of the event "The Warrior WarIn Venezuelan homes each family group has challenges to overcome.

“It is a unique activity in the country and perhaps in the world, parents can share with other parents, children with other children.Before nothing was done for these children, but from now on we are fighting for them, ”said Troconis, founder of the support network in an exclusive interview for the National Web.

Children from different health centers in Caracas, mostly from the J.M.Of the rivers, they were able to enjoy a day outside the routine at the facilities of the San Ignacio school with a series of sports and recreational activities, in which the children were distributed in eight stations, each with a positive message about the condition.

The Foundation is the first in the country that works with the intention of educating families about a condition in children's patients, this in order to raise awareness to clear prejudices and false conceptions.

The shortage of medicines in Venezuela has been a difficulty in the metabolic control of patients with diabetes, who - not having treatment - are more susceptible to developing complications, either due to hypoglycemia (low sugar) or ketoacidosis (high glucose).

“We currently have many problems.Children are not receiving insulin and the one that arrives is very high.Now they not only need hospital children, but also those of private clinics due to the big scarcity that exists.To this is added the malnutrition that exists in infants, ”said the founder of the organization.

Before the lack of food in the capital's health center, blue warriors organizes “sweet breakfast”, an activity in which foods are delivered to children and that are prepared under the control of a nutritionist after the foundation received reports from infants with diabetesthat arrived fainted to different hospitals.

Despite the difficulties of carrying out an activity that benefits the health sector in Venezuela, Blue Warriors works to clear the doubts surrounding children and young people who do not consider diabetes as a disease.The project that began thanks to the initiative of four mothers became a family that continues to work for the country and strives to leave behind the paradigms about a limited life with diabetes.
