Dexcom G7 and what will come in 2020 (Verily)

The latest about Dexcom's work with Verily to make a simpler and more accessible CGM;Also, the professional CGM "PRO Q" and the Insulin Dosage Council for people in multiple daily injections

Dexcom and Verily are launching the G7, a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) much more thin, less expensive and totally disposable, in the US. In approximately two years: at the end of 2020 it is the current estimate for the launch, followedof a broader availability in 2021. In a recent presentation, Dexcom shared a new image of the device that was previously coined as the "thinnest CGM in history" that is being developed in association with Verily (the part of the alphabet previously known asGoogle Life Sciences).

The photo below contrasts the Profile views of the Dexcom G6 on the left (currently available in 16 countries; read our review) and the next Dexcom / Verily CGM diluent.A couple of years ago, it was described that it had less volume than an M&SP m and that it was approximately the size of a penny, although this may have changed as the design has evolved. The device will have a series of additional features also:

Significantly lower costs, which should help take the CGM to more people with type 2 diabetes.

Fully disposable: After the sensor wear, the full plastic piece will be thrown and a new one will be placed (as free freestyle).Currently, G6 has a reusable transmitter that lasts 90 days and adds costs to the system.

Punctions are not necessary, similar to G6.

"Prolonged duration": duration of 14 to 15 days, compared to the current 10 days of the G6.

Send data directly to smartphones through Bluetooth, similar to G6.It is also possible that Dexcom eliminates the current requirement of buying a receiver, which further reduces costs.

This sensor will be widely available for people with diabetes who receive intensive insulin therapy (pumps or multiple injections daily) and for people with type 2 diabetes who take pills or do not take medications. In the future, Dexcom plans to offer the same hardware for different client groups, differentiating the sensor through software / applications.

What else is in Dexcom's plan?

"PRO Q" PROFESSIONAL G6 CGM.This completely disposable CGM is expected, owned by the clinic, unfolding in the United States in 2019 if everything goes as planned.

As in the ABBOTT Freestyle Pro Professional CGM, medical care providers and clinics will possess these devices and place them in users during visits to the office.

The details of the product in "Pro Q" have not been shared, and we are not sure whether users can see their glucose levels or not.In the case of the Abbott Free Proestyle Pro device, the user cannot see their glucose data while using the device; The provider downloads the data after 14 days to review them on a monitoring visit to the clinic.

This "professional" approach to CGM gives suppliers and people with diabetes visibility on their glucose trends for a short period of time without requiring a long -term commitment to CGM, which allows them to learn about the impact of certain behaviors andmedications at their glucose levels..

"G6 glucose program" (only for Samsung J3 phones so far). This application is aimed at people who are not at risk of severe hypoglycemia, and offers a different version of the G6 application currently available. The G6 glucose program will offer chat in the application with a well -being coach and eliminates high or low glucose alerts.Dexcom has not said whenIt will launch, although more CGM pilots are expected in type 2 diabetes in 2019 if everything goes well.

Insulin dosage tips for injections users.Dexcom recently acquired Typezero, a software start that has insulin dose management algorithms for injection users.During the presentation, a slide of a CGM -based food -based calculator (Bolus), a prediction of prospective hypoglycemia and even tips for sleep and exercise; For example, "for 60 minutes of medium intensity exercise, we recommend eating 38 grams of carbohydrates" or "before sleeping, we recommend consuming 9 grams of carbohydrates."These characteristics could make insulin dosage much easier for those who are injected, eliminating conjectures and mathematics.Typezero's control-iq algorithm for automatic insulin pump supply is currently in its fundamental study using the Tandem T: Slim X2 device;A launch is currently expected in the summer of 2019.

Hi Regina, as they said from Dexcom, should be presented soon during this 2021, but I don't have more information about it.

All the best.
