Anesthetist .... surgery and slow insulin ....

To patients with type 1 diabetes who have undergone surgical intervention.
Has the anesthesiologist ask them to reduce the dose of prolonged action insulin to half that are normally administered the day before the next day undergo surgery?
Does this have logic?
Who had experience in this?

Well, I have passed twice and without problems.
Actually the problem is not having hypoglycemia before the operation, because they are usually delayed.
Last August I from 14 units, I put 10 units of basal on the day before, the operation was delayed 5 hours, so I took some sugar envelopes to overcome and voila.Sugar does not alter the body for an operation.

Hello.I have recently gone through a simple intervention, and I also reduced the slow insulin of that day in half.They told me that if before the operation (already in the hospital) I lowered the sugar, they could glucose by way.The purpose of reducing the dose of slow is to avoid hypoglycemia during fasting time prior to the operation (or during surgery, of course).

Today is the day of the intervention time 8:30 I currently have a free freelyle reading glycemia 223 I leave you a Nursing notice and tell me that nothing is done because they have to intervene.I thought I had a large device similar to a microinfusor capable of managing insulin+serum but it is not so ... meanwhile I am waiting ...: or

Abasaglar 9 unidades. Metformina, 1000/0/1000. Humalog junior: 2 unid en desayuno y luego en función de lo que coma.
