About 6,000,000 people live with diabetes in Spain.Of these, 55% have not received, at any time, information on how to handle their pathology in their daily life, by medical professionals; And those who have accessed training have not been individualized or continued in time.In this context, patient associations are outlined as a key actor to support the National Health System (SNS), in this essential work training.

With the aim of supporting these initiatives, the Spanish Diabetes Federation (FEDE) has launched this year, for the first time, the “Aid to Adult Activities”, equipped with € 25,000, and that will be distributed equally among federations and autonomic associationsFede member who present their projects.

It should also be noted that the aids comprise any type of activity, provided they are aimed at improving diabetes training and the quality of patients and relatives over 18 years: from nutrition workshops, to leisure sports activities, passing through groupssupport for emotional health care, among others.

This initiative, focused on the adult collective, is discussed, after the success harvested by the “aid to activities for young people”, which are also reissued this year, and that they first launched in 2022. And it is that, after theirRealization, more than 600 children under 18 with diabetes benefited from the projects that received these aid, as well as the Fede Autonomic Federations and Associations.

In this sense, Juan Francisco Perán, president of Fede, stressed that “through these grants, associations make a series of knowledge and experiences essential for people with diabetes accessible. Therefore, from Fede we decided to consolidate our commitment to the associative movement, expanding aid, so that adult patients can also benefit from them, who, in addition, do not have access to this type of resources through other ways. ”
