Beatriz Merino Antolín: Diabetes Research Award

The Spanish Diabetes Society has recently awarded the José Antonio Hedo Prize to the postdoctoral researcher Beatriz Merino Antolín, highlighting his remarkable scientific career and his contributions in the study of diabetes.

Beatriz, originally from Palencia and a doctor in bioengineering from Miguel Hernández de Elche University, has dedicated years of intense and meticulous work to the study of metabolic diseases, especially in the field of diabetes.This recognition not only celebrates its previous dedication and success, but also marks the beginning of its new line of research centered on pregnancy and gestational diabetes.

Dr. Merino has accumulated a significant experience in the analysis of the physiology of the endocrine pancreas and the management of animal models, which has allowed her to advance in the understanding of how the homeostasis of glucose is regulated and adapts during pregnancy.Among his most recent discoveries, he has identified a peptide, known as PIF, found in pregnant women and plays a crucial role in the implementation of the embryo and could be key in the development of new diabetes treatments.
