Prediabetes is characterized by blood sugar levels that are high but not enough to classify them as type 2 diabetes.

The worrying thing is that more than 80% of people with prediabetes do not know that they have it, putting them at a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease and strokes.

According to the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC), prediabetes is considered when fasting glucose levels are between 100 and 125 mg/dl.The alarming thing is that prediabetes often does not have clear symptoms, which makes it go unnoticed for years.

Therefore, it is essential to perform blood glucose tests regularly, especially if you have risk factors, such as overweight, age greater than 45 years, family history of type 2 diabetes, little physical activity, background of gestational diabetes, or polycystic ovary syndrome.

The good news is that the progress of prediabetes can be reversed or preventing a healthy lifestyle. This includes a healthy diet, low in calories and rich in food with low glycemic index, such as green vegetables, most fruits, raw carrots, beans, chickpeas and lentils. In addition, it is crucial to maintain a healthy weight and perform physical activity regularly, such as walking at a light pace 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

It is also recommended to plan your meals in advance to avoid skipping meals, which can negatively affect blood sugar control. And finally, but not least, avoid the consumption of tobacco, which increases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Remember, prediabetes is an alarm sign that we should not ignore. With the appropriate measures, we can prevent its progression to type 2 diabetes and live a long and healthy life.Let's take care of our health together!

Greetings and a lot of health for everyone.
