If you have entered the Diabetes Forum lately, you will surely have found something different. And you'll probably still discover some more.
During these last weeks we have dedicated many hours to improving the forum. Some new features are seen immediately and others are there to achieve something much simpler: to make entering, searching, reading and participating easier.
🔎 FIND WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR
We have greatly improved the search, both to locate topics and to search for publications by author. We have also revised the lists of topics, categories and the Top, simplifying the presentation and making navigation more comfortable.
✍️ PUBLISH AND PARTICIPATE
Creating and editing topics is now easier, and we've fixed the mention system to make it easier to find and mention other users.
Public profiles have also changed to better show each person's contributions and who tends to support their posts. In addition, we have a new Top Users based on recent participation and the newsletter begins to give more visibility to those who are especially active.
👀 RETURN WHERE YOU LEFT IT
We have improved the followed topics, your own topics, responses, participations, history and topics pending reading.
One of those small improvements that are appreciated on a daily basis: from the history you can click on a topic and continue directly from the last message you read.
💬 CHATS, NOTIFICATIONS AND YOUR ACCOUNT
We have also reviewed individual and group chats, notifications and the entire "My Account" area, reorganizing the profile, personal data, password and preferences.
And then there is everything that is barely visible: keeping old forum links working, improving translations, correcting errors, correctly managing user cancellations without losing useful conversations.
⚙️ MAINTAIN A LIVE FORUM
Diabetes Forum has been running since 2007 and maintaining a community for so many years takes a lot of work.
Technology ages, new problems appear, we must take care of security, combat spam, maintain servers and continually update a website that accumulates years of conversations and experiences.
But the technical part is only half the story.
The other is you.
❤️ THE BEST WAY TO SUPPORT THE FORUM IS TO USE IT
Ask when you have a question. Tell something that has worked for you. Respond to someone who is going through a situation that you already know. Give a “Like” to anyone who has taken the time to help. Recover an old topic if you have something new to contribute.
Many times an answer written in five minutes ends up being found months or years later by someone who needed to read precisely that.
And that is the reason why it is worth continuing to take care of this space.
📖 AND IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE READING...
Much of what we have learned over the years about the value of sharing experiences was also included in “Living with Diabetes: The Power of the Online Community.”
It may be an interesting read for those of us who live with diabetes, but perhaps it makes even more sense to share it with a partner, family member or friend who wants to better understand some of the things we experience every day.
In the end, both the book and this forum are based on a very simple idea: living with diabetes is somewhat more bearable when we can learn from those who also know it closely.
So thank you for continuing to enter, read, ask and answer.
We continue to improve Diabetes Forum. But what makes it worth improving is still the people on the other side of the screen. ❤️
