Being a mother and having type 1 diabetes

I've been on this forum for a few years now and I'm surprised that this melon has never been opened.

Being a mother and also managing your diabetes is very hard and I don't understand why this is barely talked about.Anyone else who thinks like me?

My diabetes before becoming a mother was something that, although I was heavy, I managed quite well. Now, all that has changed, in addition to the fact that hormones have made my diabetes another diabetes that is much more difficult to manage, plus the burden of parenting is added. Many days I am absolutely overwhelmed by not getting good control and also having to sustain a life that depends on me.

Anyway, here I leave this.

Greetings to everyone.

Hello @nigiri,

I think it is very appropriate that you have opened this topic. From a man's perspective, we may not live in exactly the same way, but it is easy to imagine how hard it must be to manage type 1 diabetes while carrying all the physical and emotional responsibility of motherhood.

Many times we talk about pregnancy with diabetes, but much less about what comes after, when hormones change, rest disappears and day-to-day life revolves around taking care of another person who depends on you. It's totally understandable to feel overwhelmed at times like this.

I think putting this on the table is very necessary, because surely there are many mothers with diabetes who feel something similar and do not say it out loud.

Thanks for opening the melon. It's a conversation that deserves to exist.💙

Much encouragement @nigiri.

The truth is that motherhood sweeps you away and the last thing you think about is yourself.I'm sure you will find balance.

Cheer up @nigiri, the hormones will calm down and you will be fine again.

Your son will compensate you a lot and see him grow up happy.

Totally agree

And I'm a mother of 3, I know what I'm talking about. The first few years are crazy. It is impossible to have good control. Then little by little everything comes back into balance...

I think that anyway, even if you're not diabetic, being a mother is very hard. And all the focus is around pregnancy and childbirth, you have been planning the pregnancy and childbirth for months... But no one warns you that the really hard part comes later. With diabetes, it's that times a thousand 🤪

Good luck, you are not the only one 😘😘😘

Cheer up diabetic moms!

I think about it soooo many times... The time I dedicate to my diabetes every day and I think: what about with a child?

We do it the best we can and know how.

A strong hug.

Well, you're absolutely right, @Nigiri_ When I debuted, my children were already teenagers, so I spent the baby stage without diabetes. But I have to admit that if it had happened to me before, with them little ones, it would have been a horror.I had enough to take on the new illness, without also having to face recent motherhood.Cheer up to all moms with diabetes!
