A hundred people with type 2 diabetes have arrived at the Plaza del Obradoiro in Santiago after completing the last 100 kilometers of the Camino de Santiago in six stages.

Under the rain and with the first storm of autumn in Galicia, these pilgrims arrived full of emotion, accompanied by doctors, nursing professionals and family.

This initiative, promoted by the Novo Nordisk Health Foundation, aims to raise awareness about the importance of abandoning sedentary lifestyle and start moving, something fundamental to improve glucemic levels and better control diabetes.

According to Blanca Torres, from the Foundation, many people with type 2 diabetes are not aware of how crucial a healthy lifestyle is to avoid complications.

This group of pilgrims, who came from all over Spain and joined through patient associations, showed that "with diabetes, you can."

Throughout the tour, they lived unique moments, like several birthdays in which everyone joined to sing the "happy birthday."Although they also faced some setbacks, such as visits to the hospital for the emergency room, the general feeling when arriving at Obradoiro was proud and emotion.

Many spilled tears of joy when they succeeded.

As Blanca Torres said: "How proud I have to be of myself for having achieved it and, above all, for having done it with such a human group."

This story reminds us that, even with diabetes, we can reach great goals with effort and support.

Congratulations to all pilgrims for this incredible achievement!
