A group of diabetics will participate in the half marathon

A total of 32 athletes with diabetes will run on Sunday the half marathon of Granollers (Barcelona) to demonstrate that this disease is not an obstacle to living a full life like the rest of citizens.

The athletes that will participate in the initiative, promoted by the Diabetes Foundation, belong to the Diatlétic team, composed of athletes with diabetes from all over Spain.During the race, the Foundation will organize a control device in which athletes can undergo glycemia tests and take carbohydrate supplements if necessary.These points will be located at the exit and arrival, as well as in kilometers 5, 10 and 15.

Diabetes mellitus is characterized by an increase in the amount of glucose in the blood and its incidence increases with age and in case of excess weight and lead a sedentary life.These factors anticipate that the number of people who suffer from it will grow in the next decades.
