Give voice to type 2 diabetes

The San Pedro de Alcántara de Cáceres hospital hosts, from today until next January 6, the campaign "Give voice to type 2 diabetes", a disease that, according to the head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of this center, FidelEnciso, they suffer around 100,000 Extremadura, of which 40,000 are unaware of suffering it.

Enciso has indicated in a public appearance that this campaign, organized by the Extremadura for Health Service, the Federation of Spanish Diabetics (FEDE) and the Novartis laboratory, aims to inform, raise awareness and prevent the population about type 2 diabetes.

The head of the Endocrinology Service has indicated that, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the number of people suffering from this pathology is currently increasing in the present way "epidemic ".

At present, around 285 million people suffer from this disease worldwide, and according to recent studies, it is estimated that in 2025, this figure will be folded.

He also explained that type 2 diabetes frequently remains without diagnosing for several years, because the hyperglycemia picture that has been rigged "develops very slowly."

He also explained that, according to national studies, the prevalence of this pathology in Extremadura is 8 percent in women and 12.5 percent in men.

In his opinion, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, inadequate diet and the lack of physical activity encourage its appearance, and added that although a sector of society tends to "banalize" this disease, "in the long run it produces serious damage to theKidney, in the central nervous system, the heart and the circulatory system.

In this sense, it has declared that some of the symptoms that can prevent type 2 diabetes are an excess of sweating, sudden changes in humor, a considerable increase in appetite, intense thirst and an increase in the desire to urinate.

Apart from a great infrastructure and interactive exhibition, located in the lobby of the San Pedro de Alcántara hospital, which simulates the interior of a pancreas and its blood sugar regulatory function, this campaign also encompasses kitchen and nutrition workshops, sessions of sessions, sessions ofRound cinema and tables.

The initiative "Give voice to type 2 diabetes, which has already visited Barcelona and Madrid, after passing through Extremadura, will take place in Murcia.
