Diabetes alters drug liberating stents

The dependent insulin diabetes raises the risk of suffering a serious cardiovascular problem after the placement of the Sirolimus liberating coronaries, as confirmed by a team from Japan.

Stent are considered an excellent option for all patients, but have complex challenges for diabetic people.

The team of Dr. Takeshi Kimura, from the University of Kyoto, analyzed the data of a record with more than 10,000 patients treated only with Stentators of Sirolimus, including 996 dependent insulin diabetics and 3,404 non -insulin diabetics dependent.

In three years, the rates of cardiac infarction and thrombosis of the stent were similar in the three groups, according to the study published in American Journal of Cardiology.

Dependent insulin patients had a higher adjusted risk value for mortality from all causes, infarction and stroke.

The adjusted risk for the revascularization of the lesion was significantly higher both in dependent insulin patients and in non -insulin dependent.

It is possible that in the diabetics "the progress of atherosclerosis in other areas of the coronary schools is more aggressive than in the site treated with the stents," the authors suggested.

The results, highlighted, reveal "the need to develop a more powerful drug -liberating stent against residents."
