The Abbott Foundation summons the II Stories Contest on Chronic Disease

The objective of this literary contest is to raise the population of the impact of chronic diseases from a more emotional and human point of view.
Carmen Posadas will be, for the second year, president of a multidisciplinary jury that will assess the literary quality of the stories and their informative capacity.

Madrid, April 24, 2012 - With the aim of publicizing the human dimension of chronic diseases, the Abbott Foundation has convened for the second consecutive year the contest of stories on chronic disease.It is a literary contest open to the participation of anyone who wishes to show experiences or emotions related to any chronic disease.An opportunity for patients and their family environment, health professionals and general population to project in a story for informative purposes the individual, family and social problems of this type of disease.

For the choice of winning and finalist stories, a multidisciplinary jury has been designated that will assess both literary quality and its informative value.To do this, relevant characters have been selected from areas such as literature, medicine, journalism, politics or patient associations.Specifically, writer Carmen Posadas is part of the jury;the president of the Commission of Health and Social Services of the Congress of Deputies, Mario Mingo;the member of the Royal Spanish Academy José Manuel Sánchez Ron;the president of the Spanish Society of Rheumatology, Eduardo úcar;the president of the General Alliance of Patients, Alejandro Toledo;and the member of the Madrid Press Association, Mª Teresa Antona.The jury secretary will be Antonio Bañares, general director of the Abbott Foundation.

The contest will have a first prize of € 3,000 for the winner and two prize of € 1,000 each.The stories, which must have a maximum extension of 12 numbered pages DIN A4 written in double space, can be sent from today by mail to Contestratelatos@ketchum.es Link

Chronic diseases

WHO defines them as long -lasting and, usually, slow "Crohn, respiratory (COPD), chronic kidney disease, epilepsy and a long etcetera whose global management is one of the great challenges for the sustainability of the health system.
