Hello!

I am new in the forum and I would like to know if someone can tell me if you can relate myopia and astigmatism to diabetes.

Thank you!

Hello MJAZ0723, there is nothing to see any of the two things with diabetes, my endo told me since I also have myopia and astigmatism and I asked if I had something to see and told me that it has nothing to do with diabetes, I hope I helped you

It does not have to have anything to do but we all know that poorly controlled diabetes can trigger in a blindness and, if you have problems of view, diopters may increase. It is best to be doing ophthalmological reviews, in case flies.

All the best.

Well, no Jordi, you are wrong, myopia "protects" from retinopathy by poorly controlled diabetes, that is the first thing the ophthalmologist told me when I was diagnosed with diabetes.I have myopia since the age of 4, bone by birth.
So "there is no harm that for good does not come.": Mrgreen:.Of course I mean a big myopia .... Many diopters.

I am with Prado, Angel has both, he inherited from me.And it is true that "protects."My son now increased myopia but has to do with growth not with diabetes. If it is true that when you have hyperglycemia it looks worse but is corrected as soon as you normalize.

Wow, then my failure. But, then, why is it worse with hyperglycemia?I was seeing fatal even with glasses before the diabetes was diagnosed and, for a week after they entered me, I saw perfectly without glasses. Moreover, with the glasses I was dizzy, but on the days I needed them again :?

I have consulted on the same topic, my doctor has not given me any satisfactory response so I have put to investigate about the Causes of myopia and its relationship with other diseases, if someone has information I would appreciate to publish it.

Refraction defects have nothing to do with diabetes. The mechanism by which diabetes affects vision has to do with the deterioration of small blood vessels (especially those of the eye), which causes a succession of problems that lead to a destruction of the retina. That is why it is said that a "great" myopia protects against diabetic retinopathy, because it produces for itself a retinal atrophy, that is, diabetes has no retina to affect.A poor comfort.Periodic reviews in charge of a retina specialist is forced. If you control the vision in an optics, you have not done anything
