Diabetic associations criticize that they have not obtained a response to their request to maintain reactive strips

The Valencian Association of Diabetes has criticized in a statement that last Friday, January 14, he delivered 25,400 signatures to the President of the Generalitat, Francisco Camps, to demand that the Valencian Administration "not restricted or delete" the dispensation of the reactive strips for controlof blood glucose, and "invest in prevention through diabetological education" but that have not yet received response.

Thus, they point out that although the Department of Sanitat declared in its Valencia study that 14 percent of the citizens of the Valencian Community are likely to suffer diabetes (more than 700,000 Valencians), after knowing these "highly worrying" data,The Valencian government "is not undertaking any measure, and from what we deduce from its silence to our demands, it does not plan to do it either."

"The only thing that Sanitat has done is to launch a measure of" savings "that has been applied since February 2010 when they detected inappropriate use of the sugar control strips by 13.54%of patients with diabetes, "he criticized.

Therefore, they ask if these patients were identified "why they were not informed and formed to stop making a" misuse ", as well as the doctors who were prescribing those reactive strips, and instead they have had to payThe broken dishes the remaining 86.46% of patients when they are removed or restricted the strips to measure sugar ".

In that sense, they affirm that the 'manual for the proper use of the strips' "only tries to justify the unjustifiable: the cut for all, without making distinction.""They clarify, much more, the press statements of those responsible for said Ministry when they said that 20 million euros had to be saved, only in that matter," they add.

In fact, they indicate that for the elaboration of the aforementioned manual, the Ministry of Sanitat "ignored" the recommendations of patient associations, which "comes to demonstrate how little citizens are concerned about politicians when there are no electionsin the short term ".

In this line, they show that "there are national and international studies that bet on education for patients and self -control to achieve more adherence to treatment, and what is more important to avoid complications of poorly controlled diabetes, blindness, dialysis, amputations, cardiovascular accidents, true cause of the "cost" of diabetes treatment ".

"We can affirm that the Department has not supported the cut with education programs for patients with diabetes in the areas of primary and specialized care. While in the aforementioned manual education in diabetes is vital for patients, in practice it is not consideredEducation to them as a maximum priority and should not forget that diabetes kills 10,000 Spaniards every year, "they add.

Well, in Madrid to see what they take to do something similar. The other day in DNA I read:

The regional vice president, Ignacio González, acknowledged yesterday that it is necessaryCertain vaccines, oral attention or the allocation of sticks or wheelchairs.

The number two of the regional government thus responded to the national radio publication of a study last December that proposed to remove the treatments for assisted reproduction, change of sex or free strips for diabetic patients ."We have not trimmed anything," González stopped, "but we do think that he, like other services, must be adjusted in a moment of crisis."

"It is necessary to see how you can stop such a large disproportion between the cost of a service and the income we have to pay it," he said, and clarified: "We have not raised the copayment" because "it is not easy to implement" and "thatIt is agreed on the intertritorial council. "

I do not know what truthfulness it has but sends noses that compare the strips (on which our survival depends to some extent) with the assisted reproduction or the change of sex, which has nothing to do with chronic diseases.

It is true that in some places there is a very large lack of control with the strips, but it seems more reasonable that they limit themselves to stop lending for free.

On the other hand, seeing that there is not much interest in developing non -invasive glucometers or at least they do not depend on "consumables", we might be set up a kind of foundation or similar and allocate money to research as they have already done for example with theCancer (Cris Foundation) or some against Alzehimer, seeing that politics only applies to fill their own pockets and friends.

Well, to capture funds for research is already mounted:

First, we now pay the ineptitudes of the leaders of yesteryear and the current health leaders.

Second. The problem is still in how health is treated to chronic diseases (see post that I have published in general section)

Third. The important thing is diabetological education ... which is non -existent in this country except for the selfless and scarcely recognized work of 100 or 200 educators disseminated throughout the country.
Fighting for 4 more or 3 strips less is absurd ... diabetological education in addition to training the patient includes self -analysis of blood glucose, but in a context and with sufficient support so that this investment (because self -analysis is an investment and investment andnot an expense) can be considered as effective cost.

Room.We show that patient associations do not have enough representation or institutional force in this country.Nor do patients, at the individual level, demand our rights ... mostly.

Fifth (and last). The endocrine are great guilty of this situation ... they are the ones with the highest percentage. His manual of self -analysis recommendations is shameful ... His clinical profile (dominant, in every way) is completely away from the figure of educator, motivator, dialogue ... in a word: diabetologist
Diabetes education cares about a pepper, because almost none is personally involved in doing education, few formally support the work of educators and scarce demand and implement (in their field) an adequate care for their patients.
