Young diabetics, authors of the Diabetes Stories Book

More than twenty young people with diabetes have collaborated with their stories in the elaboration of the first Spanish book that addresses the disease with personal testimonies.The Association of Diabetics of the Principality of Asturias (ASDIPAS) together with the Service of Endocrinology and Nutrition of the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA), the foundation of the Spanish Society of Diabetes (SED) and the collaboration of Sanofi just edited “growWith diabetes ”, the first book that is published in Spain created from the stories and drawings of children and adolescents with diabetes and ages between 7 and 17 years.

The young protagonists of the publication participated last summer in the Camp for Children with Diabetes Organized in Colunga (Asturias).

The book, which will be initially distributed through the endocrinology services of hospitals, aimsManagement of this pathology.

"People with diabetes have to control their glycemia through deep and adequate knowledge of their disease and from the SED Foundation we want to contribute to this formation in a significant way," said Dr. Bernat Soria, president of the SED Foundation.

For Dr. Edelmiro Menéndez, head of the HUCA endocrinology and nutrition service, “it is tremendously important that children learn to live with their illness and control it from an early age.Health professionals must be very involved in these educational activities that help children normalize their situation. ”
