Laredo, TX.- Diabetes remains one of the main causes of death in the city and to reduce the incidence of cases, the Department of Health will implement a new phase of the free program “Living better”.
"It is a special program for people prone to diabetes or who already have this chronic disease, here we teach them to control it so that they have a better quality life," said Dr. Héctor González, director of the Local Health Department.
He added that the records for the program will be held on September 17 from 8:00 in the morning at the 2600 Cedar health clinic.
The program was implemented for a couple of years."We have been living better and we can say that it has been a success, the people who have completed the course have improved their quality of life and now they are healthier," he said.
The program consists of six sessions of two hours each week, with talks in English or Spanish where people learn to cook with appropriate recipes for diabetics, they are educated on how to take care of them, the exercise is promoted and taught to monitor theirglucose levels
The program includes free zumba classes, healthy cooking classes and diabetes control, in addition to glucose exams.
People who have interest in the program and require more information can already communicate to (956) 795-4918 or in (956) 721-4994.
