The University of Alcalá (UAH) has celebrated this weekend the graduation ceremony of the first promotion of students of the Chair of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, sponsored by the Boehriger Ingelheim and Lilly Alliance in Diabetes.This initiative has allowed a hundred specialists and residents of the last year in endocrinology and nutrition from all over Spain as experts in the pathology, who have obtained theoretical and practical knowledge to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of type 2 diabetes (DM2).

During the event, Antonio Pérez, Director of the Endocrinology Service of the Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau (Barcelona) and scientific director of the Chair, has indicated that the new diabetes experts who graduate today "have more toolsTo contribute to prevention and better handling of one of the socio-sanitary challenges priority in public health, such as type 2 diabetes. Being a heterogeneous and progressive disease, it is necessary to adapt the treatment permanently and individualize it to each type of patient, which is why specific training in DM2 "is necessary.

The type 2 diabetes mellitus chair is currently celebrating its second edition at the University of Alcalá de Henares, and has been created as a platform to launch the 'University Expert Degree in the treatment of type 2 diabetes'.

The objective of the chair is triple: to provide knowledge about the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes (DM2), as well as the skills for phenotypic typification and stratification of the metabolic state;the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, skills and competences to carry out an adequate prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and their complications;and provide objective criteria for the proper interpretation and application of scientific information.
